We stayed here for a long weekend. On arrival we were greeted by Quinton who was extremely welcoming and even offered to carry our bags. The hotel was quaint and georgeous obviously a lot of work has been done to keep it looking so good. The room was lovely and clean and breakfast fantastic. Staff were all lovely and nothing... More

From the outside, you might be forgiven for thinking that you have chosen poorly, but once inside, it is charming. We had a most comfortable apartment (no. 12) with kitchenette, large bathroom, large bedroom and second smaller bedroom. It was all charming and beautifully furnished - also well appointed with everything you need. The hosts were excellent and the staff... More

The Abbey Hotel is an ancient building of many parts and a very special place to stay. It is brimming-over with character and charm. The hosts were warm and welcoming and our every requirement was anticipated and well catered for. A lovely quiet bedroom, with an extremely comfortable bed and, with an adjoining sitting room, the accommodation felt like a... More

We had a deluxe room on the top floor at the back which was very comfortable and had wifi. If you had mobility issues the little stairs may have been a problem but it wasn't a problem for us. It had dual aspect windows which was fortunate as they opened which allowed a breeze otherwise on such a very hot... More

Backstory: I booked the Abbey for exclusive use - I was getting married nearby and had a lot of guests coming from out of town (mostly the States), who didn't have cars and were more budget-sensitive (especially with the dollar-pound exchange rate). I was looking for something not crazily expensive, within walking distance of Bury St Edmunds attractions (Angel Hill/The... More

On arrival we waited 40mins to even get in the building after arranging our check in previously I paid nearly £100 for an executive room which turned out to be nothing more than a standard size room There was a broken chair leg which my wife fell off causing great distress She then found out that there was hardly any... Lovely place, spotless, quality beds, free wifi, fantastic breakfast. Couldn't do enough for me. Would definitely return and recommend. Breakfast fresh and very well cooked and served. Nice garden, some of the building is work in progress but don't let that put you off.

The Abbey Hotel is a real gem and totally unique character. Located very close to the main centre, a pleasant walk to all the local attractions and shops, but not on the frustrating one-way system! The on-site parking was very welcome. Our room, number 6, was quirky but none the less charming and very clean. There was amazingly fast wi-fi... More

Two nights at the Abbey Hotel, the buildings date back to 1390 and this is evident with exposed beams and low ceilings. A friendly welcome from Quentin who explained the history of the hotel. This is not a bland chain establishment, this hotel exudes character, family owned and run the Abbey is an ideal base for exploring East Anglia. If... More

We had walked past the Abbey Hotel a number of times when visiting family in Bury St. Edmunds, so it was the first place I looked when booking a hotel for a few days over my wife's birthday. After checking out the rooms on line, I booked St. Botolph's Cottage, Room 10. I knew that my wife would appreciate the... More
