Stayed here as part of a small group, we had such a great time. We did not spend a huge amount of time in the bedrooms but they were clean and spacious, what more do you want? The staff make this hotel - they are friendly and fun but good at what they do. Nice to see a hotel that... more

The hotel was in a great location and was very quiet. There are a few chalets outside which I stayed in. One of the advantages of these was that you could park outside your room. The staff were friendly. Can't comment on the main hotel building or the food as I never ventured there. more

We spent two nights in this hotel which is AA 3 star rated and which is only a 20 minute walk from the centre of this attractive town with its beautiful cathedral, and found it to be very comfortable and quiet. We were not in the main block but in what was described as a chalet, which had its own... more

Although I arrived late on a Sunday evening, my check in was very smooth (and they were kind enough to whip up a sandwich for dinner!). My room was one of the "back" rooms and separate from the main hotel. The great part was that it was VERY quite! I had a lot of work to do late in the... more

I’m probably being a little unreasonable as my problem with the Priory affects a lot of hotels in December. I stayed in the chalet type rooms for 2 nights and although the room was a little frayed around the edges it was fine. Unfortunately, I found it impossible to sleep until the disco music had stopped (around midnight) at the... more

We have just returned from our visit to the Priory. We have been visiting this hotel regularly for the last 5 or 6 yrs, mainly for the excellent food and location. On arriving we were shown Room 5. This room is extremely dark & as mentioned in previous reviews, badly in need of redecoration. The bedroom was cold - the... more

I stayed in the Hotel for three nights at the end of May. Although I believe the last review was a honest opinion of their experience and I agree with a few of his points (my hot water also took more than several minutes to come through). My personal experience were slightly different, my room (number 3) was large and... more

This is quite possibly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Now I am aware that a 4 rossette rating is not the same as 4 star ! The rooms are at least 30 years past needing a re-fit. My room was a classic "Crossroads Motel" but without any hot water (10 minutes and still cold) The... more

We stayed for two nights over Mothering Sunday and found this hotel to be the worst Best Western that we have stayed in and now wish we looked more carefully at Trip Adviser before booking! The main issues included mildew on the windows and bathroom blind, old uncomfortable beds (rooms 21 & 22), depressing dark grey wall paper in the... more

We picked this hotel for the last night of our trip so as to be not too far from Stansted airport by car. That worked well, under an hour. The hotel was a bit hard to find, we finally had to ask the way, but we got there. The setting as you enter is wonderful. An English Country House with... more
