Gorgeous hotel, picturesque setting. Noisy with traffic and bright sunshine despite closed curtains meant no sleep in after very late / heavy night. Suite was big, glamorous and very comfy bed. Breakfast was outstanding - full Suffolk adapted for vegetarian. Scrummy!

The breakfast was very good except one could not go to a buffet table to choose one's breakfast cereals & juices. You had to order by the waiter for all your breakfast. The waiter's tried their very best.

We enjoyed our one night stay in the angel... Check-in and check out very efficient. Concierge/porter excellent!! Lounge service a little slow and we were nearly charged for someone else's gin.. Breakfast good lots of choice and a waiter service! Would recommend.

This is a superb hotel set in a very pleasant quare in the heart of picturesque Bury St Edmunds, just a very short walk from the shops. The hotel faces St Edmundsbury Cathedral and the extremely colourful Abbey Gardens...well worth a visit in their own right! In the hotel itself the rooms are very well appointed and provided and are... More

Stayed here for one night in July. Room and service excellent. Good breakfast choice, and fast service. Use car park at rear of hotel to avoid problems with car parking tickets in public parking spaces.

We visited The Angel for a dinner reservation. The overall evening was lovely and very pleasant, however we feel that the restaurant is over priced for what we ultimately felt was posh pub food. The starters were of a high standard and presented well, however we were let down by our mains. We both had steak for our mains and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the centre of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep.Once inside, the Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The restaurant has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. In 2012, the hotel opened our new Wingspan bar. Decadently curious and located in the 12th Century vault under the hotel, Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
