The title says it all really. The food and drink is fantastic and the location is great - right opposite the abbey gardens and in the centre of town. However the only affordable rooms are the pickwick rooms which sell out quickly. The car park is absolutely tiny and cannot cater for such a large hotel. The hotel is worth... more

Best thing is the location. Picturesque spot, in a square right opposite the cathedral and abbey gardens. Minutes to walk to the shopping areas or the Greene King brewery. Large, nicely decorated rooms. Only fault was noisy aircon and needs better sound insulation in the rooms. I could hear the people above stomping around quite loudly. Turn down service is... more

booked a standard room at the Angel as the Prestige were all taken because of a wedding. Arrived late afternoon on Saturday afternoon (note most shops close at 5.30 p.m.) the town was like a ghost town! First impressions of the Angel, pretty from the outside, nicely located right in the centre of Bury. Check in was efficient. We were... more

We spent a weekend break at this hotel having kindly received a one night voucher as a present from one of our children. We paid for the second night and stayed Friday and Saturday 8th and 9th May 2009 Good points 1. Attentive staff ,well trained, really nice people and they respond well 2. Only had a one night stay in this hotel - wish we could have stayed longer. The location in the centre of town is ideal. Room (Louis Phillipe) we had at the front of the hotel was excellent - large and airy with a four poster bed. Bathroom clean and well equipped. We did not eat at the hotel as... more

We had stayed at the sister hotel, The Salthouse in Ipswich, so we had an expectation that this would be as good. We were not disappointed. Central location, dog friendly (no additional charge), lovely room with excellent bathroom (once I could work out the water supply arrangements, I was convinced this was the first bath I had ever seen without... more

Myself and two colleagues stayed for 2 nights. We were offered a pretty good deal (£90 per room per night). The good points.....the food is excellent and fairly reasonably priced. The breakfasts are a triumph and amongst the best hotel breakfasts I have had. The service is first class. The hotel is clean and the valet parking helpful. The rooms... more

Stayed here for two nights on business, and on both mornings was awoken by bin lorries and vans making deliveries at the side of the hotel, an issue which could be quite simply solved by double glazing the room windows. The rooms were OK, very clean and airy , but a bit tatty around the edges with sunbleached rugs and... more

Often in England the hotel experience has negatives, but this privately owned hotel had no faults. The location opposite Abbey Gardens is probably the best in the town. From check in to check out the staff were friendly, cheerful and efficient and did everything asked. The rooms were clean and everything worked! There was a kettle and tea, coffee, biscuits... more

An historic hotel with modern day comforts. Perfectly placed for walking to Bury's attractions. Beautiful room and cosy bed. Same with the lounge - big comfy settees where you can relax and unwind, waited on, with drinks or coffee. The loveliest friendly staff, from the waiters, receptionists to the lady who cleaned the room. The restaurant was fantastic. The best... more
