This is a great hotel about 10 minutes out of the town. I drove to Bury and it was useful to have somewhere to park as this does seem to be at a premium in the town. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly, and dealt with any query or request without hesitation or difficulty. The room... More

We spent 4 nights at the Old Cannon the week before Christmas. We found the food good, the beer memorable and the staff all without exception very friendly and helpful. The room [no 3] was a good average standard but we did not get much sleep. First night a very noisy radiator kept us awake; I did mention this and... More

An excellent choice to overnight whilst visiting the Christmas market. Superb food, ample portions, well cooked and presented as well as very good prices, accompanied by their own selection of beers. The 3x one third pint tasters were a good introduction and accompaniment to the food. Room was clean, comfortable and welcoming. Safe parking in gated area at rear of... More

We stayed overnight inn this wonderful small hotel in Bury St. Edmunds last week and found it excellent in everyway, the room was clean and comfortable with every thingwe required, the staff were very welcoming and very efficient; The cooked breakfast was extremely tasty and well prepared. Overall we were very surprised to find such excellent hospitality in such a... More

This is a welcome change from the cold style-less chain hotels. It’s actually a functioning small brewery, with rooms and a decent restaurant, but it’s neither smelly, or in any way tacky which you may associate with preconceptions of a brewery. I found the whole experience more “olde-worlde” than trendy. One step into the bar area and you enter a... More

What a lovely, lively place. My room was spotless and the little touches like having fresh milk instead of those little UHT cartons, and the iron and ironing board in the room made a massive difference. Not to mention the free wifi and the complimentary bottle of beer. The breakfast was excellent and cooked freshly to order I especially liked... More

My son and I were visiting Bury for a family wedding. We have stayed in several hotels in the town previously but found the Cannon the most comfortable so far. After a short walk from the station we were warmly welcomed by the staff and were soon tucking in to a delicious supper. My son enjoyed the tasting trio of... More

Staying in a micro brewery with a great atmosphere has been wonderful and considering I'm on business has been like a mini holiday for 3 nights. My room, room 6 called "Blonde Bombshell" and named after one of the many brews from this micro brewery was great and I'd thoroughly recommend it. The beds are very comfortable and the room... More

We have been going to the Old Canon for years, although not much this year, so our first choice to take friends for lunch yesterday was easy. However, sadly, it was a rather disappointing experience. It didn't have a particularly friendly atmosphere. The garden outside looked like it needed a bit of tlc. We ordered 4 small fish and chips... More

Although this was in the centre of Bury and a lovely location that the room was significantly overpriced. The decor was pleasant, but nothing special; there was no fan in the room on a very hot Saturday night and the room and bathroom were both small. The bathroom was really quite basic to be honest and looked as though it... More
