I stayed for one night with my adult son. We had two double rooms (2 and 4). The hotel is in a nice central location looking on to the beach and sea. The town centre is only a short stroll with some pleasant shops and a few places to eat. The hotel has lovely communal areas and the staff are... More

Wow, wow, wow .... what can I say, I have have afternoon teas at the Dorchester and many other well known estabishments in London and nothing came close to this, Anmar Odendal the pastry chef who took the workshop was let loose to plan and prepare everything from the amazing food, to the displays and all the china to complete... I attended a master class held by your Very talented pastry chef Anmar. It was incredible, all the little touches made the tea party a real experience and the skills I learnt in the masterclass I can now take forward and work on. so much fun & so much time and effort went into it 100% recommended

Had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights at The White Lion Hotel at the end of September, had a great time, room was a standard double at the back of the hotel (room 4), clean and certainly big enough for both of us, plenty of choice at breakfast, also had dinner in the restaurant, very good indeed, staff... The reception staff were delightful. The hotel is in a wonderful spot on the beach front. Restaurant ok though I fail to understand why a guest of the hotel would be reserved the worst table in the restaurant - in the middle, right by the door. They rectified it but it left a sour taste. The room was below standard.... More

The best tea party you'll ever go to. Pastry chef Anmar Odendal was allowed to let her imagination run wild with an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party. Starting with a master class in macarons and meringue making, followed by an exquisite tea party full of Heston Blumenthal style surprises. Anmar excelled herself yet again, when's the next one?

I've stopped here on business on a handful of occasions and must say I've always enjoyed it. Booking by phone involves talking directly with the hotel rather than a call centre so they actually want you to stay and it's always friendly and fuss free. The hotel itself is in a quiet location on the seafront and is in decent... More

This is clearly a hotel in transition. It's got a fabulous position on the seafront and is clearly trying to modernise and be a 'new English hotel'. Ok, not a Mr and Mrs Smith property, but has aspirations as part of the Suffolk set. Bar and restaurant clearly reflect this but reception less, and the landing, well..... However, it obviously... My wife and I stayed at the hotel for two nights at the end of August, with my brother and wife and were totally impressed with the friendliness and professionalism of all the staff. When we got to our room, which was quite large and very comfortable, my wife found a problem with a lot of dog hairs around the... More

Though the front of house of the White Lion - bar, restaurant and lobby have had a reasonable makeover, the rooms and landings have been refurbished very poorly. Cheap fabrics, limited, bland decor, and cheap badly placed lighting. Our room was pretty pokey, the bed was very uncomfortable (why no mattress topper?) and the pillows were awful - thin, hard...
