Where to stay in Wells? That is exactly what we asked ourselves. We chose Swan Hotel primarily because of their terrace next to the green in front of Wells Cathedral, perfect for a chilled Rose to watch the world go by! When we arrived we were upgraded to Cathedral Suite. How amazing is this suite! 3 large rooms ALL overlooking... More

Stayed with a group of friends during the week and all were of the same opinion as to what a great city centre hotel this is. Other attractions in the local area are all very reachable, we actually used the bus for our trip to Street and some Outlet retail therapy. We had a room with a cathedral view which... More

We actually spotted the hotel on a best western ad when watching an episode of Frost, I recognised the cathedral so searched for the hotel ... we booked a room for a short break immediately and we were not disappointed. Very friendly reception staff booked us in and we went off to our room. We were given room 48 which... More

First visit to The Swan. A homely hotel where staff, food and accommodation were of a very high standard. The closeness to the city center and the magnificent cathedral was a bonus. We shall return . The historical background to this very old building added considerably to our most enjoyable stay.

I booked this hotel for a work visit. The hotel is in the centre of town with its own free car park - a real bonus! It's terrace has a great view of the cathedral and is just across the green. The reception area, bar and restaurant do lack original features, I presume as a result of Westernisation. I had... More

We thought we would celebrate the day by having a cooked lunch in a hotel. We arrived at 12.20 and ordered from the daily special menu. The service was very slow. My wife could not discern what the bland green soup was [listed as vegetable] she gave up whereupon the waiter when clearing asked if she would like some more!. The... More

Thank you for your comments. I was sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the quality of your lunch. I am investigating the issues that you raised with my kitchen team. I sincerely hope that you will give the Swan Hotel another chance in the future. More

A birthday trip turned sour when we revisited this once loved haunt and found we had been put in a rather ill-planned room (with a bath in front of the bed) and poky bathroom, added to which the room overlooked an area for parties. We had been informed that there would be a "function" but not that a blaring, thudding... More

Reading the other reviews, in does seem that some rooms are better than others. We had room 48 which was on the first floor at the end of a corridor - so very quiet as it only shared one wall with another room. It was actually a pair of rooms - the room you enter had a sofa bed and... More
