The Swan Hotel garners acclaim for its charming atmosphere and stylish, comfortable rooms, with guests often lauding the stunning cathedral views. While the central location and friendly staff are highlights, some guests have pointed out issues with noise and occasional lapses in cleanliness and maintenance. Opinions on the hotel's value for money are mixed, as some find it reasonable, whereas others feel it doesn't fully justify the cost. Despite this, the amenities and overall service quality contribute to a positive experience for many travelers.

Just returned from a weekend at The Swan - and something of a mixed experience. First off, hats off to the courteous and attentive staff, who were friendly, welcoming and polite. Second, our room was perfectly comfortable, a decent size and with a glorious view to the cathedral...a beautiful sight to wake up to in the morning. Third, the location was ideal - minutes away from everything this small but perfectly formed city has to offer. Sadly, the same praise cannot be given to the catering. Here's what happened to us. BREAKFAST Started well - ordered tea and coffee, two full English breakfasts and, while we were waiting, enjoyed some fruit from the buffet. The dining room was busy and, we were quite chilled, but after about 35 minutes, stomachs beginning to rumble, we asked what had happened to our cooked breakfasts. By this time it is 10am and we had sat down at 9.20. We were told that they had 'lost the ticket' and that there was therefore no order for us. We left, walked into town, and bought breakfast from a nearby cafe called Twenty-One (highly recommended, btw). Later that day, at 1pm, we sat down for our Sunday lunch at the Swan, joined by 12 members of our extended family who live nearby. It really was terrible: beef so well done that one of my companions sent it back and changed it for the pork. I perservered with my beef but it was so indigestible I had a choking fit. What's more, the portions were too small and absolutely not what is expected from a Sunday roast: portions covered just half a modest-sixed plate, with one of our companion's vegetable ration amounting to a thin sliver of very floppy, overcooked carrot and one piece of caulitflower. Nobody got much more. We asked for more vegetables and got them. Finally, my personal pet hate: food served, waiter asks whether we want any mustard or other condiment. We tell the waiter what we want and it takes ten minutes to arrive, putting you in the dilemma of eating lunch without your favourite condiment, or sitting and waiting until it finally arrives. So, for a perfectly decent stay in an amazing location, highly recommended, but best to eat elsewhere. It should be said that the hotel refunded our breakfasts and also did not charge us for the two drinks we had had in the bar the previous evening; this was done promptly and courteously.

Lovely large room, very clean. The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent and a good breakfast. The staff were friendly. Lots of areas to sit and relax in and the hotel was in centre of the town.

Poor quality food - very disappointing part of our day out. Stale dry bread, overcooked pouched eggs, low value (£12.95). The team really needs to think about whether they are offering customers quality and how they can improve. A bad experience and will not return here.

We stayed for three nights at the Swan Hotel as part of a secret Hot Fuzz trip for my partner. All the staff were accommodating and friendly and the free car park is a plus (but it is narrow!). We were woken up by a false fire alarm but staff were immediately on hand to resolve the issue which was great to see.

Stayed in the Cathedral Suite which was great. Had dinner first night which was ok (but not great value). Breakfast both mornings was fine, the manageress at breakfast was very attentive. Great location right opposite the Cathedral.

The Swan is a pleasant hotel in the heart of Wells so ideally located for exploring the city. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and thought the food was good but not exceptional. The breakfast was good too with a wide choice but I thought porridge would have been a good addition. It was lovely sitting in the lounge area near the log burner which provided a warm welcome on a cold day.

Hotel right on the High Street in Wells. Perfectly located for the town and also for the cathedral. Property is a rather struggling building which is not especially attractive from the outside. We stayed in the coach house, which involved a bit of a walk from the main hotel, which is not ideal in the rain. However, our room was beautiful, newly refurbished, large and comfortable. It was a deluxe room with all extras that you could wish for. Staff were friendly, professional and efficient. As with another coaching in Hotel that we stayed in at Christmas, the food was a massive letdown . Breakfast, I was served to virtually raw eggs and the toast was basically still bread, which makes me seriously question whether the vert “chef” has any formal training?! Such a shame, when everything else, for this, Hotel is above average

We stayed in a dog friendly suite, the room was beautiful with luxurious decor and everything was spotlessly clean. We received a warm welcome on arrival, staff were friendly and the evening meal and breakfast weee excellent.
