Front of house and reception staff was good. Room had not been vacuumed, bedlinen not ironed , no towels in bathroom, when they did arrive one of them was dirty and the housekeeper explained that the chamber maids used them for cleaning purposes!. One pull switch to the overbed light was missing and on the final night of our stay... more

Went here for a weekend dancing. Really nice service on arrival. Very pleasant staff on reception. Room was very nice, however on one wall the paper had semed to have shrunk. This wasn't the fault of the hotel but the decoraters they employ. Everything was nice and clean with a comfy bed. Restaraunt. Excellent food and plenty of it. The... more

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights whilst visiting friends in the area. Pleasant rooms with smart decor and very comfty beds. There was a lack of entertainment in the evenings, not a problem for us as only staying 2 nights but I think this may be a problem if staying longer. However, altogether a great hotel that served all... more

Worst hotel ever stayed in, in my life. Lift is ancient and decrepit, bed linen dirty, corridors stink. Breakfast not good. Forgot some of our orders. £80 a night per couple shocking price compared with what we got. Never, ever again. more

Arrived at the Wessex Hotel on 2nd May 2008. We were given keys to our room by reception staff who appeared helpful. We were informed at this point that the hotel was being renovated and we would have to excuse a little mess on the hallways (what an understatement!!) We experienced some difficulty gaining access to our room due to... more

If you want a comfortable bed for a night or two look elsewhere.- We arrived the reception, booked in & were given our room key. On entering the room I noticed that the bed sagged in the middle, after a quick sit on it & we headed back to reception to ask for another room. The staff were friendly &... more

I had the unfortunate experience of staying 2 nights in this hotel and will never set foot in it again in my life! The bathrooms are from the 1970s and in a desperate need of redecoration, the staff are unhelpful (see below) and the breakfast was, at best, mediocre. For c£80 a night you can find far better hotels locally.... more

Stayed here May bank holiday weekend. Rooms need total refurb - they look like they are from the 70's - complete with pink bathroom. We also had problem with the water only being luke warm temperature. - (note sign by the taps - caution hot water). The hotel's night life seemed non existent - but the bear pub and bistro... more

Booked six rooms as we were celebrating my daughter's wedding party in Glastonbury and wanted a nice experience. A very cold weekend. Lift not working making it difficult for elderly members of party. Five out of six rooms had lukewarm water making bathing/showering uncomfortable. Towel rails not working so no heat in bathrooms. Windows very draughty/not closing properly so any... more
