Stayed here as the website was welcoming. However reality was so different. I know the owners cant help the noise from the road, rail etc but they can help the attitude of the staff. Everything seemed rushed through dinner and breakfast. Once served then nobody reappeared to offer more drinks or find out if everything was ok. The food was... More

Saw the special 2 night dinner, bed & breakfast package on their website and thought it ideal for a Bath getaway when travelling by train as the hotel is right across the road from the station. The meals were mostly fine, although I had the Eton Mess for dessert one night and wasn't too well afterwards and believe the cream... More

We booked a four poster bed for a romantic night away, I requested a top floor room in a quiet area. Upon arrival we were shown to our room on the first floor at the very front overlooking the train station. The room was so hot, there was a portable air conditioning machine which did nothing, we had no choice... More

The decoration is a bit rococo for my taste, but I appreciated the effort of the management to keep the original style of a hotel with so much history. The staff is friendly, and the location is unbeatable. But my special mention goes to the breakfast! No buffet but you can order from the a la carte menu, so you... More

Thank you for your thoughtful review following your stay with us. I am delighted that you appreciate the original style of The Royal which we work very hard to try to maintain. Thank you also for mentioning our award winning breakfast which we are very proud of. Last but not least I apologise for the fact that you were given... More

I stayed here last week and I have absolutely nothing positive to say! There was a large group of us staying and we had an evening meal booked aswell as a room for the night. The problems began at the meal, sitting as a table of 10/11 we were pointed too a table by the "manager" who then disappeared. A... More

As one of the directors of the company which owns The Royal Hotel, I wish to respond to this review. The reviewer was part of a group of 49 persons staying with us and on Thursday 11th September dinner was booked for all 49 persons with service to be commenced between 7.15 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. It was agreed with... If you have traveled to England before you know the rooms can be small. That is especially the case at the Royal Hotel. The bathroom had been updated to the 21st century, but the decor in the bedroom had not been. The room was comfortable, however, and quiet because I asked for a room in the back. The location of... Thank you for your review. Yes, some of our rooms are small but again there are others that are large and generous by modern day standards and, of course, given that hotel was build in 1846 and is Grade II listed we are somewhat restricted as to what we can do to increase the size of the rooms. However, we... More

With my fiance we decided to go to Bath for the weekend to celebrate Valentine's day, it was a last minute decision so we did not have much choice in terms of hotels. The hotel was very pleasant despite being right in front of the station, something I was scared of (very convenient on Sunday when returning to London by... More

Thank you for your recent review albeit it refers to Valentine’s Day (14th February!). I am pleased that you found the hotel clean and attractive and you enjoyed breakfast. With regards to the nearby nightclub I would respectfully point out that it is not right opposite the hotel but some 100 yards away and although on occasion undoubtedly there will... More

Booked in here for three nights, but owing to a mix up on the part of the hotel, we only stayed for two, as we did not want to change rooms for one night. We enjoyed our time there, and found it very quiet at night, despite it being opposite the station. The breakfasts were excellent, with a really good... More

No air con in our room, the breakfast standard was very poor, I have had better food from the wife and that is saying something. Staff were chatting amoungst themselves alot during breakfast.Me and my wife were so hungry we had to eat the food even though we knew the consequences just by looking at it. Hotel is very noisy... I was obviously disappointed to read this review and would like to respond to some of the issues raised. In common with most hotels, we do not have air conditioning in our bedrooms but we do provide fans which are normally very effective apart from when the weather is exceptionally hot and muggy, as it was on the occasion when...
