Went lunch time and had the artisan bread with olives to start and Persian lamb for main..both big portions and really tasty..also had an evening meal..steak..was good and cooked well however small portions..so ended up stealing food from the other guests!! Loved the interior design and service very adequate.

Stayed here for a weekend for birthday celebrations. Whole place has oodles of character and very quirky. Stayed in room five which was spacious and with large bathroom. Ate in the restaurant on Friday evening, lovely atmosphere, food delicious. All staff very helpful and friendly. Well situated for exploring the town.

Alas we did not get to sample lunch at this little pub/inn/rooms over bar. We walked into a group of people at the bar. When we were finally noticed by the matron in black, to our amusement we were greeted with a rather supercilious Caaan I Help you? As if Mrs Bucket just found a stranger lurking in the hallway... Is it a pub? Is it a restaurant? Is it a tea room? Is it a hotel? It doesn't really conform to any of the traditional categorisation. And it's better for it. I had fabulous Morecombe Bay potted shrimps to start. Good sirloin for making and my companion's venison was excellent. Nice rating for pudding. It's not cutting edge but... More

We have only been to this pub/restaurant once for lunch but we were very favourably impressed. I had slow-cooked lamb, my wife had the fish and chips. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and it was good to see home-made tartare sauce instead of the preserves we normally see. The service was very good and the ambience was relaxed and... More

He stayed in one of the fab rooms and had a fantastic dinner in the private dining room. The dining room is like a film set perfectly quaint . Belly pork was in a class of it's own. Increadable value for money. Perfect base to explore Shrewsbury.

Friends recommended this restaurant so we went with them for my birthday. Lovely atmosphere and the owners make you feel very welcome in nice, comfortable warm surroundings. Starters looked very good and my friends eat so quickly and quietly that I knew I was missing out. Then the main course arrived and I took my first bite of my duck... More

It was pure luck I first come across the Golden Cross hotel. I saw the menu outside the door and instantly knew this was the place for me. Classic British food done exceedingly well. Good range of mains. A good number of gluten free meals as well. I've been back a few times with different friends or family and all... More

Booked this restaurant with 6 work colleagues for our Christmas meal and we certainly made the right choice. The restaurant has a very warm cosy feel to it and I love the layout and décor, very quirky!! We pre booked and pre ordered our food which was great for both them and us. We had 1 person fail to turn... More

We had the pleasure of staying in this delightful hotel last night, we were lucky enough to stay in the hotels Suite. This is a split level room with an amazing bathroom in the rafters of this medieval hotel. We ate lunch in the restaurant, this was delicious and very good value. The surroundings are eclectic and beautifully done. The... More
