Suffice to say that I've already booked for 2015 for friends to meet up and book all three rooms. We had the Thomas Bromley, top floor suite. Large, great views, two massive baths, comfy bed, and lots of space. Ask owner Tony to give you the tour of this fascinating 1520 house, it brings it all to life. Breakfast was... More

If you like a quirky place to stay then this is made for you. The house, dating back to the 15th Century, is wooden panelled and wonderfully creaky. Our room, the Mary Tudor Suite was huge, with a very comfortable king size bed, sofa, chairs, Sky and walk in wardrobe. There is fresh milk in the fridge for your tea... More

Just returned from 3 days break in shrewsbury. Trip was made by the wonderful Old House Suites. Everything about it was superb, firstly we felt inspired by the hosts Tony and Mary. Tony's tour of the house was full of interesting tales of by-gone-days and his enthusiasm makes you want to investigate more. The breakfast served by Mary in our... More

If interested in historical buildings, and open to the impact of time on a 500 year old structure, this is a fantastic place to stay. We had a wonderful suite on the third floor of The Old House Suites (one suite of three). The bath fixtures are sparkly modern. However, moving from one room to the next, or even through... More

We stayed in this beautiful house for 3 nights from 17th June. Tony and Mary were very friendly and welcoming and Tony showed us around some of the house and explained it's history, which was really interesting. Our room, the Mary Tudor Suite, was being re-decorated so they offered us the Catherine of Aragon Suite instead at a very discounted... More

My wife and I chose this place to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and what a fantastic choice of a B&B! Centrally located and within walking distance to all the shops/restaurants, etc... Our room was large and very comfortable. Breakfast was superb - tasty and well cooked. The highlight was when Tony gave his tour of the house which was... More

We have just returned from a weekend stay at The Old House Suites, staying in the Mary Tudor Suite. It was the most luxurious room we've ever stayed in. It was beautifully decorated, spacious, with an extremely splendid, comfy bed. We felt very special and the family were so hospitable and friendly. If you love history, and the opportunity to... Just returned from our 2nd visit to Shrewsbury, and staying at The Old House fells like going home. The first visit, we stayed in the Catherine of Aragon Suite. It felt so luxurious! This time we stayed in the Mary Tudor Suite. Honestly, I'm not sure which suite we liked better. But the rooms are incidental compared to the generous... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old House in Dogpole sits on an original Anglo-Saxon plot leading down to the River Severn. After the Norman Conquest in 1066, Shrewsbury was fortified and the town wall cut through the garden, but the plot remained intact. The house was rebuilt as a timber framed Tudor mansion around two massive brick chimneys in the late 1490s and retains much of this original character. The house had strong connections with Catherine of Aragon. She married Arthur (brother of Henry VIII) at nearby Ludlow Castle in South Shropshire where she finally returned after her divorce from her later marriage to Henry VIII. Members of the Rocke family were courtiers of Catherine and also owners of The Old House, and there is a tradition that Mary Tudor stayed in the house on her way to visit her mother. ... more   less
