This hotel was absolutely great for our three night stay in Shrewsbury. It's central postion made access to all of the town easy and everywhere was within walking distance. The hotel is very old and I have to say tired but that doesn't seem to matter to the very happy and dedicated band of staff employed here, nothing was too... More

The lion is a hotel with lot's of character which has been improved substantially in recent months and it is clearly a very old building - one to avoid if you don't like squeaky floorboards! The rooms are of a good size with an office space and separate table and chairs along with a decent sized en-suite. The bed was... More

We've been to Shrewsbury a few times over the years and eaten in the Lion restaurant which we enjoyed. This time we thought we'd stay there. It's in a great location. Car park is a night mare. Should be one way for starters and only for hotel guests. Room was ok. Clean. Bathroom spotless. Bed. Looked ok. Until you got... More

Stunning town and stunning downstairs rooms with big open fire and wood beamed walls and ceiling. Ousing history out of every creaky floor board. Upstairs rooms comfortable but not as gorgeous as downstairs. Food very good. Staff are very helpful. I would recommend a stay here.

The Lion is a fascinating old hotel in a very central location. It has a wonderful history, a Robert Adam ballroom, a splendid bar area and serves excellent food. The staff are friendly and helpful andm, though I went for the cheapest possible room, it was spacious, clean and comfortable. I look forward to staying here again.

We live in Shrewsbury so didn`t stay here but hosted a group of friends here for 3 nights last week; they all praised the level of service, the excellent breakfasts and the cleanliness whilst also appreciating the history of the building. We ate dinner here on one of the nights and it was of a very high standard. We also... More

I stayed for one night on Sat 14th March 2015 with my husband and my sister and brother in law. The hotel is very central in a fab location and is very old. The decor and furniture in room were very worn but it added to the character but it might put some people off.... I'm more concerned with cleanliness... More

My partner and I stayed for two nights at the beginning of March. We had a lovely friendly welcome at check in. The room was very clean and very comfortable. The breakfasts were well cooked and served by staff who were very attentive and a credit to the hotel. We will definitely be staying again. As for the numerous reviews... More

We called by chance at The Lion Hotel one Saturday after seeing the coffee and cake deal for £2.50. It's many years since we had been in there but it hadn't changed a bit. Lots of character, full of history and friendly staff. The coffee and cake were good too, a very generous piece of homemade Victoria sponge.

We visited the Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury for our 45th Wedding Anniversary and we weren't disappointed. We had already booked this hotel and then I checked it out on Trip Advisor and there were mixed reviews, especially regarding the noisy lift, so we were a bit anxious about our room in location to the lift!! We shouldn't have been concerned... More
