Good location for touring this historic town. Comfortable room, but a bit too close to a noisy street for me. I'll ask for a rear room next time. Decent breakfast. Pot-luck parking unfortunately. Would use again. more

We decided to visit Shrews bury for the day, just sightseeing. We passed several places contemplating lunch and then came across this wonderful hotel.the lunch was excellent. None of your bought in stuff here. Tables were beautifully laid with white linen. After a few minutes a very attentive owner/manager came to ask if everything was to our satisfaction. This hotel was... more

We stayed for one night B&B at a good internet rate. Thoroughly enjoyed eveything about the hotel- the standard room was newly decorated and quite adequate. Super bar meals and a great breakfast. The log fires in the public rooms were a real bonus. Lovely feel of a historic building-the newish private owner has done a great job so far... more

I spend my life on the road, staying in hotels night after night, so it was a wonderfully unexpected pleasure to come across this charming hotel where the staff cannot do too much for the guests. No, it's not the Dorchester, but it's a comfy old coaching inn. Being a very old building, the doors, walls and floors slant ever... more

I stayed here with friends for a golf trip. We wanted something functional in town etc. The reviews people give depends on ones expectations. If you compare this with a European holiday hotel where you go for 10-14 days then there is no comparison. But for a short break this is ideal. Its a listed historic building, so it will... more

i would not go back there if you paid me! the room was meant to be deluxe.. however the difference to a standard room was unnoticable! the heating was on all night- full blast - and was unbearable despite all the windows wide open! the bed was shockingly loud, to the extent that every time you rolled over it woke... more

We stayed in the Lion for four nights. Our room was comfortable and clean and equipped with tea/coffe making, plenty of storage space and an en suite bathroom and TV. No telephone in room. The Lion is a very old hotel and has a long history. It was warm and comfortable and the huge open fires in the Oak Bar... more

I stayed at The Lion hotel in december and have found it excelling in style, having stayed here over the last three years two to three times a year, the work being carried out is wounderful and has bought the hotel into its glory. Since the hotel has gone into private ownership the improvement is outstanding. The front of house... more

Excellent location in the middle of Shrewsbury so you can easily walk to all local attractions. Hotel is in a traditional style and the service was very good. Enjoyed breakfast too. Room was clean and comfortable. Comfortable lounge to sit quietly and read the papers. Downside - if main carpark is full, the second one is a bit tucked away... more

We go to Shrewsbury every year for the flower show (not to be missed!) and moved from the Abbots Mead to the Lion two years ago. We were very disappointed with the Abbots Mead, which is run by a friendly family but is a bit of a dump next to a building site that has been boarded up for years.... more
