Two very comfortable nights in a single room of this lovely, historic hotel with a nice atmosphere in pretty Shrewsbury. Room was facing onto a busy road but no traffic sound penetrated. A couple of lovely, comfortable guest sitting rooms and bar area. Good location, helpful and friendly staff and good brekkie. It would be good if the hotel actually... More

The hotel was very clean, staff friendly and very helpful. Yes floors do creak and lift is noisy (lift is not in use overnight to reduce guest disturbance) but the Lion maintains it's old character and would be spoilt if updated to modern and clinical. The weather was exceptionally hot but a fan was provided on request and promptly. Good... More

Thank you very much 'Janet B', for your fantastic review, I will relay your comments to our Chef, and trust the Lion Hotel will continue to exceed your expectations upon your return visit. Although a little more, the Dickens Suite still represents the same excellent value for money as you confirm in your review. Thank you again for your constructive... More

We stayed on the Saturday night the rooms where great and the level of service excellent. The meal in the restaurant was fantastic the best risotto I have had. A quirky hotel with a fantastic character I just hope that the me owners don't change it too much. Peter

Firstly, the hotel is clean and it is old and quirky but these are all the good points. I am sure there are some great rooms in this hotel but I had a single with a window overlooking a wall about 3 feet away. The two other people I stayed with on business had much better rooms but we were... More

Thank you for sharing your experience of our Hotel. However, it is a pity you did not let our hotel reception team know if you were unhappy with your room, as we could have changed the room immediately . If you had booked your single reservations together, we would have ensured your party had similar standard, and type of bedrooms.... More

if you want the same old thing then go to a chain, if you want character great location go here. Premier and other chains do have a consistency but many are not in great locations and although they portray themselves as the value end of the market they are not. premier inc breakfast £92.75 the lion £55, I hope it... Myself, my family & a couple of friends ate here for the second time Saturday 2nd August 2014 . This was for my 50th birthday & once again we were not disappointed. The overall presentation and the actual food is of a very high standard, with excellent service , although sometimes a little hurried. On both occasions we have purchased... More

Thank you ‘Adele143’ for taking the time to share your experience of our Hotel restaurant. We are glad you, your family, and friends enjoyed the birthday celebration at the Lion Hotel. I am sorry the music system was not operational when you visited our restaurant, but this has now been fixed so should not happen again. More

This 3-star hotel oozes charm and originality, with oak beams in the bar and a lounge that looks and feels like a baronial hall. I think every floorboard creaks, which makes great entertainment at night! It's a historic hotel and you get what you see! Good points: fair price, nice breakfast, good beer, great location and on-site parking (£5 charge).... More

I've been staying in the Lion Hotel on and off for about 2 years now. Having stayed at the hotel around 20-30 times I have the following comments; The hotel still retains its character and charm despite needing a few quid spent on renovations, especially the bathrooms which are now rather dated. It doesn't have the facilities of a modern... More

A lovely hotel in a great position in historic shrewsbury. Staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. It is just a pity that wifi isn't available in hotel rooms.....such an easy thing to put right!. Breakfast was acceptable but not inspiring. Both smoked fish breakfasts were unavailable when I asked! Pity!

On a return visit after 2 years we couldn't help but compare the hotel with how we found it on our first visit. Well situated, this is a historic hotel with many a story to tell but the staff and management do need to up their game a little. The lift is just as noisy as ever, a little disconcerting... More

Thank you 'redcap68' for your experience of our Hotel, even if it has been two years since your last visit.
