This is an old building so different from the bland comforts of modern chain hotels. We stayed in a big room on the third floor. There is a small lift, otherwise the staircases are wide, wooden and creaky. The hotel has a large car park but getting in and out is not so easy. The entrance is through an arch... More

Stayed one night last week, strolling over from the train station. Shrewsbury is a very historic town and this hotel represents that. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the room on the third floor was pleasant and quiet. Breakfast was of a good quality in a large restaurant with windows onto the street. The public rooms were full of... More

First let me say the staff of theLion Hotel were very nice. That said we stayed 3 nights because the other hotels were full. The hotel is in the center of town and convenient with onsite parking. The breakfast was adequate. The ambiance very dated but then the hotel boasts that Disraeli stayed there. I do believe he slept in... More

Stayed here for a 2 night stay on a TravelZoo deal. Dinner and a glass of Prosecco were included on the first night and a cooked breakfast each morning. We were given a superior room (318) which was nicely appointed and very comfortable. It was a corner room at the front and so had the advantage of a twin aspect.... More

The Lion Hotel is right in the middle of Shrewsbury with its own car park (fee to pay). It is not the most modern Hotel, but good service never dates! My room didn't have a straight edge in sight - all part of its charm, complete with creaky floor boards, but had good clean facilities. Breakfast was particularly good with... More

A friend arranged for us to stay here before and after a black tie ball at a nearby venue. A big plus was the car park although it cost £5 on top of the £108 bill for one night's stay with breakfast. The building is very centrally located which was ideal for a saunter around Shrewsbury on a sunny Saturday... More

Lovely old hotel in great location in central Shrewsbury. Floors are very creaky, which is nice, but my room faced out over a car park and there was quite a lot of noise from outside. It's also wise to ask to stay as far away from the lift as possible if you're likely to retire early or wish to sleep... More

This is a very old hotel (as evidenced by the names of the celebrity guests who have stayed previously) and it shows in places, but it has great charm and all the staff we encountered were excellent - pleasant and helpful. We were told that it had recently changed ownership which will probably lead to modernisation and/or refurbishment. The room... More

Couldn't ask for a better location. Hotel lovely, if a little creaky, but what do you expect in such an old building. Room was good although the beds could do with replacing, quite uncomfortable but still able to sleep. On the first day our room was made up, bins emptied etc, on the second day it wasn't. Breakfast was really... More
