We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Golden Ball, the staff were very welcoming and the service was good. As the weather was sunny we were able to take advantage of eating outside as well as in the dining area, and I can thoroughly recommend the food : ) We will definitely be planning a return trip.

Booked to stay for 2 nights B&B at £65 per night for 2 which we thought was good value. The pub is 1700's & has nooks & crannies, low ceilings, beams & steep winding stair case. The staff were very helpful & friendly & the food was good. Our bedroom was a double 4 poster in a good sized room,... More

We had heard good things about the food, so thought we would try it. Friendly welcome and drinks swiftly arrived. The pork belly had been well cooked, but the fish not so good. The plaice was over cooked and watery, but worst of all we're the fish cakes... Mainly crushed potatoes with almost no fish. We expressed our concern and... More

Stayed for 1 night, great value at £65 for 2 people b&b The rooms are basic but i think they are good for what you pay. Its in a beautiful location at the top of the hill, very quiet and peaceful. There is a bar and small restaurant area, the food is very good. This is an old inn with... More

Staff on the bar did not know how to handle a few old blokes; ordered a few shandys and got cobras to start with, when we had told them that was not our order were spoken to very rudely by a young member at the bar who said I have a lot of other youngsters to serve. Only visited as... More

I went to the Golden Ball to see a great blues musician - Gwyn Ashton, who was playing there that night. I'd booked the room directly and when I arrived I was met with a friendly smile and shown to my room by a very courteous young member of the bar staff. This is a lovely old inn and the... More

When myself and my wife and 4 year old daughter walked in we weren't greeted but more like scowled at. The food was awful no taste at all. My daughter decided to stand on some stairs which resulted in a very rude women who works behind the bar to come over and tell my child to get off in a... More

We had an evening meal which was delicious but unfortunately didn't get to sample the desserts as ran out of time! We were playing bridge nearby and although had booked a table, the Inn wasn't expecting a sudden influx of other bridge players and we had to wait a long time for the food. would eat there again.

Popped in as it was such a nice sunny day and once again found a warm welcome with a good selection or real ales. We stopped for something to eat and had a good sunday roast and minted lamb burger which was really tasty. Seen a few poor reviews recently but think some people expect the Ritz. Its a small... More
