A very large room with a kitchenette and an excellent olde pub. Excellent value for money. Good tv in the room with a sofa and a good armchair, tea, coffee and a cooker. Well worth staying here. Pub built in 1728.

I stayed at the Golden Ball for a night before attending a conference in Telford. I always prefer to stay in a pub if possible rather than a standard travel hotel - at least you know the hotel bar is going to be good and it personalises an otherwise anodyne trip. I booked the Golden Ball on the basis of... More

I went for the fish cakes they were so disappointing could hardly taste the fish perhaps I chose the wrong meal as my husband had a pork steak covered in stilton sauce which he said was verg good. But could hardly tell our friends to go there with only one cause ok. Margaret

We have just spent two very enjoyable days staying in the Paradise room at this establishment. The pub is a very old inn (1728!) so don't expect the modern sleek lines of a hotel chain but this place is full of character. Generally when we travel for pleasure we try and stay away from the chain establishments and seek out... More

I've drank in the golden ball over the years always been good beer and atmosphere but never eaten there until now. Was looking on here for a well reviewed restaurant probably like you are now and at first wanted to book the Shakespeare in Coalport but was fully booked so we rang the ball and they managed to fit us... We have just returned from a weekend stay at the Golden Ball, the staff were very welcoming and the service was good. As the weather was sunny we were able to take advantage of eating outside as well as in the dining area, and I can thoroughly recommend the food : ) We will definitely be planning a return trip.

Booked to stay for 2 nights B&B at £65 per night for 2 which we thought was good value. The pub is 1700's & has nooks & crannies, low ceilings, beams & steep winding stair case. The staff were very helpful & friendly & the food was good. Our bedroom was a double 4 poster in a good sized room,... More

We had heard good things about the food, so thought we would try it. Friendly welcome and drinks swiftly arrived. The pork belly had been well cooked, but the fish not so good. The plaice was over cooked and watery, but worst of all we're the fish cakes... Mainly crushed potatoes with almost no fish. We expressed our concern and... More

Stayed for 1 night, great value at £65 for 2 people b&b The rooms are basic but i think they are good for what you pay. Its in a beautiful location at the top of the hill, very quiet and peaceful. There is a bar and small restaurant area, the food is very good. This is an old inn with... More

Staff on the bar did not know how to handle a few old blokes; ordered a few shandys and got cobras to start with, when we had told them that was not our order were spoken to very rudely by a young member at the bar who said I have a lot of other youngsters to serve. Only visited as... More
