Breakfast service 10 out of 10. Room tidy but a bit gruppy and in my opinion could have done with a good clean. Dirty light switches, skirting boards and windows. Steep stairs no lift. Limited number of car parking spaces.

We stayed for one night in August. V close to city centre and uni which was ideal. Beer was v good, staff friendly and good ok. The rooms were average. My advice would be to ask for a room at the back if you like peace and quiet. We had some late stayers drinking right under our bedroom window :-(

We revisited the Psalter formally Rosalyn Court to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. We had our wedding reception here. We had read the mixed reviews on Trip Advisor and wished we paid heed. Our initial room was terrible, wall paper peeling, dirty old bathroom suite, TV not working etc... The girl on reception kindly changed it. The second room was... More

Where to begin. Upon arrival I was greeted by a warm smile. Travelling alone I found the staff welcoming and very helpful. The beer, food and hotel were great. I had a fantastic nights sleep. Would recommend to anyone!

This is a very welcoming bar/hotel, I travelled with my husband and 2 children, On arrival we was greated by happy smiley staff. Bar and resturant area was very clean and tidy. Staff told me on arrival there had been a small problem in the room and for that we had a discount off the room (very happy), Staff showed... More

This isn't a bad place to stay but it isn't the best either. I think the prices for the rooms were fair but the rooms we had was very small and an odd shape. You could also hear all of the guests in the rooms around you. We ate in the bar in the evening and found the food to... More

Its cheap & cheerful. I chose this place as its very close to the University Halls of Residence and travelling up from Kent & back is a long way for 1 in1 day! Ive stayed here 3 times now & 2 of the 3 rooms were fine although the triple room on the very top floor had just an electric... More

Where to start. Popped in for a late lunch/early dinner, the place wasn't busy which we were pleased about thinking that we would be served promptly which we were, the bar staff were well presented, very polite and friendly. Ordered drinks and set up a tab, looked through the menu, not a huge selection but enough for a quick stop,... More

I was hoping this place might end up becoming our local as we recently moved to the area in October last year. Unfortunately though I am yet to be that impressed by The Psalter. I've had a few experiences of food taking too long to come out and grumpy or incompetant bar staff. Our last visit even started with a... More

Can't understand the negative comments about The Psalter. If you want five star hotels, go and pay for five star! Rooms are clean enough, although a little TLC is needed in places. Stayed just for the one evening with family (2 adults, three teenagers) in two rooms. Rooms more than adequate, and very spacious. Had evening meal on the Saturday... More
