As I stay away from home a lot, because of my work, I have a pretty jaundiced view of bed and breakfasts and small hotels, so it is nice to be able to find a place that is comfortable, friendly and clean.
The rooms are tidy and come appointed with drinks making facilities, hair dryer (not much use for someone like me, with so little hair!), clock/radio and television. I understand there are other items, like ironing equipment, on request.
The food selection is limited mostly to their own pies (which are delicious by the way) so be prepared to pop put for food as necessary. They have a reasonable selection of beers, including one that is brewed for them exclusively.
There are lots of good walks around the area, and I noticed that all the rooms have a book with interesting walks and local places to visit - very thoughtful, if you have the time. As you'd expect from a place on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the views from the Royal are very...
