We called here after a long walk on winter's day. It was around 3.30pm, so we were not too surprised that they had stopped serving food - a common British phenomenon. Unfortunately the pub suffered from another feature rarely if ever encountered in bars/restaurants in Europe - unpleasant grubby toilets. What visitors from the Continent must think of standards here... More

I feel that this pub could be brilliant if there was something about it that people would flock to it for, such as improving the food. The only reason why people visit it, is because its old, situated in beautiful countryside and has a lovely fire place and is cosy in winter, but it frustrates me that it could be... More

Found this pub through the GBG and an excellent find although very busy the staff gave you all the attention. We had a lovely meal steak ale pie, the ales were kept in good condition. All age groups were there along with lots of four legged friends

So many places these days are difficult with dogs - and coming here makes you realise just how small minded that is. Food is good - not gourmet - but wholesome and well made. Service is very attentive and the range of ales reasonable. Would recommend if walking in the area.

Decided on a visit to Strines Inn, visited previously but many years ago. Beautiful setting on a warm sunny day, plenty of seating available inside and out. Extensive menu to choose from, we ordered one Steak and Ale pie with veg and potatoes, tuna panini with a side order of chips and one Gammon, egg and chips with veg. They... More

Miserable morning after the bank holiday - rain and mist, but the fire was lit, the soup excellent, the staff (bar and catering pleasant) and there was an enormous pot of tea (enough for two). Good place to stop if you are doing the Derwent Edge Walk - soon to be added to the Bradfield Walkers are Welcome website. I... More

Just been for lunch on bank holiday Monday . Miserable weather but decided to take dog a walk! Called in and were happy that this is a dog friendly pub, excellent! My husband had the steak and ale pie and myself the Cajun chicken and salad! Lovely meals , nicely presented & a biscuit from behind the bar for the... More

Scenery is lovely, that's it. Pity , I should have just packed my own lunch. I won't forget how chips were cooked and served, they were very greasy and soggy. Apple crumble is like a digestive biscuit soaked with water. Well, i did comment about it afterwards but guess what the manager said? "Cant do anything about it as I... More

We've dropped in a couple of times and reviewed an excellent Sunday lunch a couple of years ago. This time we were up for a couple of days and decided to stay here instead of our normal premier inn in Sheffield. Our room was amazing, quirky, historical, very clean, comfortable, large, beautiful double aspect views. We woke early to the... More
