I have stayed at the Hotel before and used it this time in what I call a "Flop run" - where I travel at end of day, arrive late, flop into bed and then up early to get going. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and in the centre, easy to find etc. Reception was... More

Working away so after a long drive a bit fed up with no parking, plus a walk from the car park. Over priced, especially when you see rooms for £49 when I paid £92! Room was up lots of stairs and very noisy, wifi didn't work so all in all a bad experience.

I booked a stay for myself and my 3 children in person on 27th March, to stay 1 night on 2 May. I initially enquired about family rooms, was told they do not offer this type of room and was offered 2 x double executive rooms at a price of £65 per room, all clearly stated on my booking confirmation.... I am a huge fan of the Accor Group - a point card holder and choose Novotel, Mercure both at home and abroad whenever I can. I stayed in the Novotel in Reading only two nights ago and it was superb. The George however might as well be owned by a different group, and is mainly on a different planet.... More

The George is what you expect from an old hotel sloping floors lots of winding corridors and rooms that are quite quaint. It's a comfortable hotel does a good breakfast and the rooms are clean - what more can you ask for. Yes a reasonable place to stay for a reasonable price....

Booked for 4 nights on a business trip. Check in was completed quickly, And I was allocated a room on the 2nd floor. The hotel is a bit of a mish mash, so it was quite a trek to the room. The room was OK, nothing special, but the lighting in the room was not very good. The bathroom had... More

Stayed in the Mercure George reading last weekend, on arrival I was welcomed by the reception staff, the hotel was simple enough to find and is a great location! Anyone shopping or eating out will be very well suited here. The room I had was 314, a large spacious and well appointed room, nespresso machine was a nice touch, bathroom... More

We stayed here as a family group in two 'Executive Rooms' for a wedding in the area. On the plus side: central location; spacious well appointed rooms; clean; comfortable beds; cot and bed for second child organised for; good self service breakfast; really interesting old hotel; friendly helpful staff. On the downside: no lifts; no onsite parking (NCP car park... More

I stayed in a single room for two nights while stopping off in Reading before taking the airport bus. The hotel is very central and easy to find and walk to. You notice the quirks of this hotel immediately. To get to the room is like a mini maze, but it really adds to the atmosphere of this amazing building.... More
