the hotel is reputed to be the oldest structure in Reading with parts dating back to 1463, hence its quaint with tudor architecture. The location is also good in the heart of the city. However the service is non existent, no housekeeping, not even a bottle of water, the room slants at an angle of 15 degrees so that even... More

Such an odd place: providing you can find it via the sat nav directions given by hotel staff so please check out the Queens car park entrance before you travel and need to park. There are good and not so good things about this hotel so I'll summarise under both categories: Good: helpful and friendly staff, food (they have a... More

My sadly outdated single room cost a whopping £89, excluding breakfast, which would have been a further £12. It was very hot too, and as it was equipped with storage heaters the temperature could not be adjusted. The bathroom was tiny and you had to be an acrobat move the shower screen to get into the bath through a tiny gap.... Seems a little dated, lol! No restaurant just a bar menu. Ordered starter and main course and they arrived together!? not ideal, ended up having prawn cocktail for dessert! Food seemed to originate from the 1980's. No Wifi in my room. Location is great if you want to explore Reading town centre!?? xx

I was on a Diamond holiday overnight stay and the day before departure our hotel was changed from the Quality to the George, great choice, this is a beautiful old historical hotel, a small Charles Dickens exhibition in reception. My single room was warm and cosy, I had a great nights sleep in a comfortable bed, the bathroom was lovely... More

My friend and I stayed Here for NYE. The location is fantastic, central town, less than 5 minute walk from the train station. Excellent. Additionally, it is cleverly tucked away down a little entrance, therefore despite its central location it's very quiet and private! The outer building is lovely, very sweet. Upon arrival we were given a superior room at... More

The longest established of several Mercure hotels in Reading, this is centrally located and provides comfortable accommodation, if a little dated and not great facilities to work. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not the hotel's fault but my room was on the first floor at start of corridor and I was awakened around 3am by noisy guests returning to their... More

Stayed 2 nights, did not sleep well on either night. Bed uncomfortable and worn, budget mattress with a dip in the middle. Pillows were thick, heavy and hard. Despite requesting a quiet room at check in (and being told that it was one), what sounded like a generator ran 24/7 outside our window. The floors creak and crack a lot,... More

Lovely breakfast, room was well decorated and clean. The decor is very good, so don't take any notice of other reviews. The staff were attentive and respectful. The bathroom was a little dated, but everything worked and it was clean. We loved the wonky corridors and quirkiness of the place and would definitely stay again
