I stayed one night between arriving late from Heathrow and catching an early train south. It's only a short walk to the train station, and the hotel was adequate for one night. The single room was small, and the single bed was tiny. The bathroom was newly renovated and shiny and clean, but the room and corridors looked tired and... More

Quaint, hotel in the centre of Reading. Hotel retains many of its old features giving it a certain charm. Stayed in one of the Charles Dickens rooms, which are superior grade to the standard rooms. Room that I had was spacious and comfortable with low lighting which fitted the environment. Only downside was the decor in the bar which was... More

Tired hotel but the room was fine. Food was terrible. The bar ran out of ice. And we were not allowed to watch the Eurovision song contest on the tv in the bar. And no parking on site.

Last minute booking and had a single room at the front of the hotel which had a fair bit of road noise. The room was tiny and I know it is an old building but the entire room sloped to one side which meant the bed was also at an angle. The ceilings and doors are also very low which... More

Stayed for one night on business. Location is excellent - right in the centre of the city, five minutes walk from the train station. The building is lovely - clearly historic - and, although the carpeting and decor is a bit tired, the room was clean and the staff were nice and helpful.

I've stayed at this hotel during a business trip. It looks really cosy from the outside. Although I've booked a single room I was upgraded to a double room. The room was nothing special but nice and spacious. The bathroom looked relatively new. There's this thing in hotel bathrooms that I don't like: showering in the bathtub. Most of the... More

I just came back from a 2 night stay at the mecure george it was in a great location right next to the shopping arcade in the high street which was great - on arrival the receptionist took our bags straight away and let us have our keys before 3pm even though we couldnt go to the room till 3pm... Too many narrow corridors and stairs. I had an upgrade to an executive room, it just provided a larger, more drafty bathroom. End of bath shower which I hate. Cubicles please! Satellite TV, rubbish kept going off signal. People who walk past your room make the room shake because of the floor boards. The only redeeming feature was...urm...erm...sorry can't think... More

I am a great fan of Accor hotels from Sofitel to Ibis but this was our first great disappointment. The hotel was not accessible by car the nearest you could get was 200yards from the entrance so if you had luggage you had to carry it a long way yourself. The executive room looked onto a brick wall and was... More
