Quaint hotel, but no lifts, rickety, windy stairs which are difficult with a case and a horrendous breakfast more

Stayed 1 night for business. Good central location within easy walking distance of Reading train station. Hotel has quite a bit of character; it’s an old building so expect a few creaking floorboards but nothing that kept me awake at night. Room was spacious and clean with the usual facilities. I didn’t eat in either of the attached restaurants but... more

Located right in the centre of Reading, the hotel is definately a great place to stay if you're going to be working or even visiting anything near the centre. It's not your average, sterile high rise style hotel. Its got a lot of character as its an older building. Having said that the rooms can be a little hard to... more

WE are a group of 16 work colleagues who visit Britain every autumn and stay in different places every time. WE chose the George mainly because we got a very good price and we wnated our last night close to Heathrow. Had read a few bad reviews and were a bit worried about standards, but things must really hvae changed... more

There are a lot of negative reviews of this hotel.but having just got back from staying there while visiting Reading on business I must say I liked it! Yes, it is a budget hotel so you don't get all the frills but it is clean, comfortable and well situated and at £80 or thereabouts for bed and (very good )... more

We spent two nights at this hotel over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We paid £58 per night through the hotel website, which we considered excellent value for the area. Check in was smooth and speedy and full information was provided about breakfast for the next two days. The room was very nice. It was very clean and tidy and... more

Hotel is in a great location for shops / restaurants / bars and station etc. But have to park car in nearby multi-story. Room is OK. Very clean, LCD TV, bed and bedding and furniture all OK and newish. Well looked after, but just OK, not good. Not stylish or modern. Bathroom very clean and relatively new again, but like... more

Very centrally located but out of date. First night ate in the restaurant, very attractively decorated but absolutely freezing so the staff kindly offered to bring in portable radiators. Meal ok but worse when I found a hair in the vegetables. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room small, large bathroom, looks like its been decorated recently. Very noisy though.... more

I have had the misfortune of staying at this hotel (not by choice) through work for four weeks most recently in January 2009. The facilities are very poor. The heating is rarely on even in the depths of winter. The fire alarm went off twice whilst I was there and the staff have no idea what to do - dangerous???... more
