I booked this hotel as my husband has a strange obsession with prisons and as soon as I saw it knew I had to book it. We stayed in a cell room which was lovely. It room was well decorated, clean and fresh. The bathroom was lovely. It was quite a strange experience when you walk through from reception to... More

This place is too cool for words - and, let's face it, a little creepy! But I loved staying at this ancient, gorgeous, one-time prison. It was pricey, but worth it. They have great service, helpful staff, great food and a healthy sense of humour about the history of the place. I would stay there again in a minute!

The hotel it's self was fantastic the staff were so welcoming especially Mark & Paul in the cocktail bar,Also the food was fabulous,The only complaint I have was with the staff in the terrace bar sat there with my wife for ages waiting to be served in the end we left and drank in the wine bar downstairs, But I'd... We have recently stayed here - breakfast took an age the first day and it appeared they had forgotten us. However when we reminded them we were still waiting they said it would be another while so we left it and complained. To be fair we received a 10% reduction to the bill for the first night, however it did... More

Visited for an anniversary treat this Bank Holiday weekend. The price for a room is pretty 'criminal', but I would say worth it for the experience of staying in a converted prison cell, which makes for a unique and memorable experience. The hotel is located only a 5-minute walk from the city centre and right next door to the Oxford... More

REVIEW: if you come to Oxford and stay anywhere but MalMaison .... you'll be missing out .... or you're an idiot!! This weekend was the first time my husband and I had stayed at Mal Oxford. It will NOT be the last time. My husband booked this as a surprise for me after some health problems to cheer me up... More

Retuned for the second year running and still great. What a great concept and beautifully made and in the middle of Oxford too. The rooms are beautifully designed and have a grand look and feel. They use three cells to make the room I was in and it felt very spacious. The breakfast is nice and filling. The service was... More

This was our second stay at the Malmaison in Oxford, and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The building is, of course, the main feature, and it's great that Malmaison have done so much with the building itself and the history of the prison, complementing it with their brand successfully. Last time, we stayed in a... More

Excellent location. Pleasant helpful staff. Interior design disaster zone. Finished to lowest cost specs and it shows. Close to all city centre attractions. Nothing wrong with funky décor but this effort is a complete failure. In room lighting so bad one could not read a newspaper/book. Not good value even at half the price. However, the breakfast was very good.

Enjoyed a one night stay here yesterday. Stunning building to house a hotel. Rooms are spacious and decor in keeping with the building. Only downside is the charge for the car park.....you've paid enough for the room and the drinks and food prices are extortionate!!
