The malmaison is centrally located and has parking which is good. The staff are friendly but check in is slow. I slept on the ground floor, it was noisy. The rooms are quirky and well equipped. Dinner was ok but not amazing. Breakfast was good. I left a gift in a gift bag at breakfast and it was never handed... More

I booked to go with my teenage son as it was sort of special sleeping in a former prison. However it transpired that the 'superior' rooms are not in the old prison itself but in a new extension wing. Maybe I should have read the blurb more carefully but having re-read it I think it is an easy mistake to... More

We stayed for just one night just to have a night out in Oxford. We live close by, but wanted to watch the 6 nations rugby, have a few drinks and a nice meal so we booked in here at late notice. The hotel is centrally located, great for access to Oxford and the superior room we had was spacious,... More

What a great idea turning an old prison into a hotel. If you are going to stay in the hotel make sure you get one of the old cells rather than a room in the new annex. we had a double cell, really great room nice staff and fun, it reminds you of "Porridge" and Ronnie Barker as you walk... More

Stayed here for a weekend in March with friends, and we picked it because it's a really established hotel chain and looked interesting. It certainly is quirky with ts original prison cells and prison ambience. However we had a disappointing experience with the service at the hotel which we found surprising for it's standard. The hotel is really pricy, as... More

Stayed with family for a couple of nights over a weekend. Converted from a former prison, this certainly makes for an interesting place to stay. Our room was a good size , with pretty good facilities on the whole. ( Minor niggles were: It was a bit irritating that we couldn't turn the air conditioning on/off from our rom, as... More

Popped into for Cocktails after a weekend away in Oxford, incredible vibe in the bar. Shane was very hospitable, charming and knowledgeable of all the yummy cocktails - also served with a smile, and vibrant personality. Would recommend Fo' sho and will be popping in next time I'm in the area.

I stayed at the hotel with my wife and other members of my family for a two night stay. It is a modern hotel built around an old prison which gives it loads of character. The lay out incorporating the old cell block is great. Details of the history of the prison adorn the walls as you explore the hotel.... More

The idea of turning a derelict prison into a hotel might seem at first glance to be a risky enterprise. Clearly Malmaison Hotels regard valour above discretion, as the risk has not been rewarded by a successful hotel, and that’s putting it mildly! However, being rung after departure following my corruscating comment card, I was informed by someone for whom... More

The Malmaison is a wonderfully quirky hotel that looks amazing but there are issues with the rooms. They are excellently furnished and presented but they are not user friendly. The lighting is so minimal that applying makeup, drying ones hair and especially trying to insert a contact lens needs to be done during daylight hours. While that is achievable with... More
