Although the Malmaison hotel chain tends to be on the pricey side, it's worth paying the extra if you compare it to cheaper accommodation in Oxford. The buildings itself is unique - some of the rooms are former prison cells that have been converted. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main attractions and there is a regular... More

My husband surprised me for my birthday with a night staying in a cell in a prison! It was an amazing experience but nearly fainted when I saw how much he'd paid. Outside of our cell looked like we were in a film set of porridge, inside the cell was okay but not as luxurious as you would think for... More

Our party of 14 had the £35 three-course set menu in Cell Two. Food - delicious Service - thoughtful, timely, professional, flexible, friendly Setting - perfect for us to be as loud as we liked without disturbing other diners. Pre-drinks in the cocktail lounge were also very nice Price - good value for money. Highly recommended!

I wanted to stay here but it was out of my price range so I made do with lunch. I only had a starter and a glass of wine but it equalled about 25% more than my usual lunch price. However, when I asked staff about the history of the buidling and how they had changed cells into bedrooms, I... More

My wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a weekend in Oxford and booked into the Malmaison. The quirkiness appealed to our sense of the ridiculous. The rooms aren't the biggest - after all, they are converted prison cells, but are adequate. We only ate breakfast in the hotel, that was good quality though pretty much what you would... More

Amazing interior and lovely breakfast menu. Nice staff, good service, very helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would certainly go again. The museum nearby was great and of course it was nice to see oxford university in all of it's beauty with the old style architecture.

A good quality hotel right in the centre of Oxford. A bit more expensive than other Malmaison hotels, but that is due to the city in which it sits and the quirkiness of the hotel, with it being built on the site of the old Oxford prison. Some of the more expensive rooms are created from the cells of the... More

Yesterday I had a brilliant lunch at Mal Maison Oxford. It was such a beautiful day and I sat outside in the sunshine and had a wonderful leisurely lunch. Sian the bartender was really welcoming, warm and helpful. I had a great hot veggie burger and chips with two amazing sauces made by Marcin the chef. As it was hot... More

If you want something rather different, albeit quite pricey, then this may fit the bill. Smart rooms but very dark and gloomy. Took ages to get served at bar and therefore decided to eat elsewhere. Car was obviously not smart enough, as it was removed very quickly from outside entrance to underground car park. Porsches, Astons etc all allowed to... More

We stayed here for my husbands birthday and it was brilliant! We stayed in a superior cell double in the A wing and it was worth every penny! The rooms was spotless, spacious, lovely walk in shower and roll top bath. The staff even brought us some birthday cake for him, which was lovely. The hole experience is a must.... More
