I enjoyed four nights at Malmaison, a converted prison right in the middle of Oxford. While the grounds and hotel itself is first class and truly beautiful, I was overjoyed with a wonderful experience AFTER my visit. My daughter left her iPad there and we only discovered the oversight upon returning back home to California. I contacted housekeeping and a... More

Great stay. Apart from the fact that you stay in a prison there isn't much more to say. It's great you can get the opportunity but certainly the service is no where near what it should be. Bed was quite hard however we did sleep well. Great bathroom, very spacious. Apart from the novelty fact not 100% wowed but still... More

My Aunty and I planned our trip to Ocford some time ago, and having seen this hotel featured on an episode of Lewis, I had been desperate to stay ever since. Despite the relatively high price for room only (continental breakfast was a very expensive addition) and the high car parking costs, we decided to treat ourselves and book. Overall... More

We were at the hotel for a touristy weekend in Oxford. It is conveniently located walking distance to all sites. Sleeping in a former prison sounds kind of exciting, only that our room was in the new wing and it had nothing special to it at all. A number of hooks for the coats or for towels in the bathroom... Stayed here for one night on a wine and dine package, which was great value for money. Upgraded to a half moon junior suite which was beautiful, bathroom was awesome with claw foot cast iron bath and two drench showers side by side. There were candles on the windowsill but sadly no way of lighting them. Had cocktails on the... More

This hotel promotes itself as having "Chic, contemporary rooms and suites in former jail building", for which I paid over £400 for 2 nights. My room was in a new purpose built and separate building that had no chic and certainly did not resemble an old jail. The hotel window oversaw the hotel rubbish bins, which were guarded by a... More

Top character hotel, the old Oxford prison tastefully converted into a great hotel with many original features still visible. Room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Restaurant and bar areas were wonderfully converted and food ( steak or Seabass ) very tasty. We also found staff to be both very polite and helpful. Hotel is also right in the centre... More

The property is just so interesting. When was the last time you stayed in a prison? The food at a group dinner was surprisingly good that included one of the best deserts I've had. The location is good as relatively close to everything with lots just outside your door. The front desk however was a mixed bag. We had some... More

The room was booked as an accessible room for a disabled guest. Trying to see where to put the key card was difficult as the hall lighting is of a very low level indeed. Black numbers on a dark door with little light is hardly what you'd expect for an 'accessible' room. The room was very hot when we first... More

I have just come back from two nights stay at the Mal and had a great time. The hotel is very unique and its this that appealed to me. Rooms (or cells) are furnished to a high standard and the staff cant do enough for you. We only ate breakfast in the hotel which was freshly cooked and the choice... More
