a former prison, it has been inventively converted into a luxury hotel while retaining a jailhouse character. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the buffet breakfast is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful with a special thanks to Yolanda..The only downside was the lighting in the room was inadequate, making it impossi8ble to read. But overall we thoroughly enjoyed... More

I was staying in Oxford alone just for one night. It was difficult to find a single room in the centre so I paid a lot of money to stay in the Malmaison as I thought it would be interesting. It was. The conversion of the hotel from a prison is wonderful. My room was not a cell but it... More

rooms small but great because they are old cells, A wing landing amazing but once over this must say the over all service v poor, lots of foreign low paid staff milling around not really knowing what they're doing.. I found staying on main landing was noisy due to party outside on A wing landing, food in restaurant was pretty... More

Loved everything about this hotel except the price. Go for it if you can afford it you won't be disappointed. Room large and comfortable bed free wifi and good tea and coffee making. Lighting a bit low take a torch to make sure you don't leave anything behind

This is an excellent hotel for location, quality of rooms and service the only downside is the price but it is an unusual building. The superior room was large, bed very comfortable with good duvet and pillows. the tea and coffee was upmarket and generous. The bathroom very well equipped, I would say that shower gel and shampoo were both... More

A boutique hotel in a unique setting - what more could you ask for? The rooms were excellent, staff helpful, and little extra everywhere you looked. We had breakfast, a late night snack, and drinks there which were all excellent. Be sure to check out the cells (if you aren't staying in one!) on the same floor as the Brasserie.... More

Having as an undergraduate so often walked past Oxford prison I was delighted to discover one could now stay there - at a price. Unlike former inmates, visitors are allotted three cells to themselves, all elegantly refurbished - the bathroom being fitted with the tropical rainstorm-style shower, typical of the Hotel du Vin chain. The bed was particularly comfortable once... More

From arrival to check out the service was exceptional. This is a real gem of a hotel, so much character and history it takes your breath away. The restaurant served a lovely evening meal and breakfast was a great start to the day. Yolana, the receptionist was very friendly and i will definitely be back.

The Malmaison in Oxford is a lovely hotel. It is different from bog-standard hotels as it was previously a prison but has been refurbished to a high standard. My sister and I stayed in a room in the main building which overlooked the Castle mound, although we did have a quick look at the original section of the building which... More
