My husband and I stayed here for one night on a Saturday. As the hotel is on one of the liveliest streets in Oxford you will need to remember bringing ear plugs with you (as we did :-)) Bathroom and room cleanliness were excellent. Lovely Loccitane toiletries and a good selection of teas, coffees & hot chocolate. The bed was... More

Located above Jamie's Italian KItchen in George Street central Oxford this Bocardo establishment /accommodation is not good. How on earth they have 5 AA stars, glory knows? The entrance is right on the street, double yellow lines, and you are confronted with steep stairs to a small landing which houses the reception desk, not always manned. Our room was up... More

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay, but we are in the Heart of the City and in the same block as the Theatre. George Street is full of restaurants and pubs and cafes. Parking in any City Centre is a problem. We always try and make our guests stay as comfortable as possible. More

There's no lift, so be warned! Heft them bags or forget it! But friendly reception, more stairs and a lovely albeit small room, nicely decorated, nice bath and great beds. All it needs is a small refrigerator and 5*'s! Crazy George Street muffled by lots of window glass, & lots of good food nearby. Enjoy!

We needed a hotel for a one night stay in Oxford and most of the central hotels charge incredibly exorbitant prices. The Bocardo is very central, on George Street. It is within short walking distance to both the railway station and the coach terminus. It is close to colleges and shopping areas. The downside was that our room was very... More

This calls its self a hotel but offers nothing for that name. It is basic room only over priced dreadful accomadation . The only positive is that it is clean. We were not told it was room only we were lead to believe this was a five star rated hotel as per booking.com however when we checked in we were... More

We get last minute cancellations, so sometimes have to reduce prices to fill rooms at very short notice. We could not be more central in the City Centre, and yes it gets noisy, Quite Hotels are situated outsde the City centre, and we do the best we can with external noise, which is outside our control. We do get a... More

I had planned a trip to oxford with my family to visit my brother, but because of a family emergency, had to cancel my trip just 2 days before. According to the policy of the hotel, I would have been charged the full price. However, I called up the hotel and spoke to Darren, and he was willing to transfer... More

Even at back of hotel it is impossible to sleep with loud generator sound whole night, topped off with early morning visit of refuse collectors. Reception very keen to obtain payment for second night and just helped themselves before I had chance. Opaque glass in bedroom with old windows does not add to whole experience, lots of stairs and no... More

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay, however the City centre location is noisy and we are in the process of replacing all windows, to help minimise external noises that are beyond our control. We hope on your next visit this will be the case. More

I was dreading staying at this hotel afte reading the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. My room was clean the bathroom was lovely, my only complaint would be that the windows were all heavily frosted so it was impossible to see out. There was no problem with noise but this may be because it was a Wednesday evening. The staff... More

Options in the centre of Oxford are extremely limited, so the Bocardo is really the best value for money option available. Rooms are compact, but beds are extremely comfortable, and the excellent heating/AC system means that there is no need to open the double-glazed windows (essential for those facing the street - there's a bar opposite, and plenty of night-time... When the revolution comes I do hope it will be televised. This will enable me to hunt down the shysters who market this as a boutique hotel and ensure they are in prime place for Madame Guillotine. What I will do is find the owners, the staff, the drunken revellers and the body odour rancid receptionist and send them a... More

We try and do our best, but cannot control the noise on certain evenings, not all, from other late night visitors in the Centre of Oxford, or noise from Refuse collection vehicles, which is very much out of our control. The other review saying best value for money in Oxford is the other side of the review feedback, which hopefully... More
