Just got home from a lovely 3 night break here. We had a Superior Room which included breakfast and free car parking. Our room had double aspect widows overlooking the river and bridge. The lovely iron bedstead had a very thick and very comfortable mattress which meant you had to 'climb' into bed but when you got there - Wow!... More

The quirky comfortable rooms, decent beer and good pub food, what else could you want? Fourth visit in a year and not disappointed by the hotel pub. The riverside location works well especially when it greets you for breakfast. Convenient for the office in central Oxford, you do need to book in advance as the place is deservedly popular.

My partner & I had a wonderful stay at the Head of the River. The room (Tolkien no.3) was lovely, overlooking the river & park. No traffic noise, clean & comfortable bed - clean bathroom with great shower. The breakfast was lovely & had a really nice selection of options for anyone. I had the eggs florentine and my partner... We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Close to everything yet still away from the hussle and bussle of Oxford. Friendly staff, lovely breakfast, pretty views and the comfiest bed I've ever been in, so much so it was hard to get up in the morning!!

The hotel is wonderful. We were visiting family in Oxford and just stumbled upon this venue. The staff are friendly and efficient, onsite parking is terrific (you must book ahead), the room was comfortable and the food great. We will definitely return.

Just got back from a two day visit to oxford, stayed at this hotel for one night, slightly pricey, but it was a birthday treat. Room was small but beautifully furnished and decorated the roger bannister room, right on the main road, could do with some second glazing as the traffic doesn't stop all night, also the window was rattling... We thought the pub was great. The staff were welcoming (apart from a Spanish lady who served us breakfast and was sourly faced the entire breakfast time)and the room was very pleasant. We would only suggest to add a bottle oppener as the complementary drinks were a nightmare to open with the wardrobe.. 😋

Dear Sara M, I was very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. The complimentary beer is designed as a gift for you to take away with you, rather than drink in the room - although I'll make sure the wardrobe doors are re-enforced for your next stay! We look forward to seeing you again in the future.... More

Gorgeous riverside location, prices a little inflated as a result but really great pub grub and we caught an unexpected ragtime band which was great! Would like to come back in the summer to experience it in the sunshine!

Dear FloP4, Thank you very much for your review. I was pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. The band you heard are the Thames Valley Jazz Band who play here once a month. We hope you return in the summer and look forward to welcoming you then. Kind regards Jamie Reed More

Last summer 4 of us sat outside & ordered 4 X burger & chips. Good took ages to arrive, and brought out at different times - by the time our friends lunch was brought out, myself & my partner had finished, despite eating extremely slow, waiting for theirs to come out. V expensive - over £30 for 2 burgers!

although the bar staff were very helpful and pleasant this was an extremely overpriced place to stay. the location was very good only a few minutes into Oxford but the rooms were suboptimal. there was no compliment trays for tea/coffee, the bathrooms are not of a 4 star standard, we stayed for 2 nights and the rooms were not tidied...
