This Hotel has clearly shown more life in the past... and has the potential to be great again - hence the title of my review. Much about the Spires is dated and tired. Worn / thread bare carpets in corridors and rooms; Old style chintzy decor guest rooms, complete with easy chairs of the kind you find in a care... more

This Hotel should be so much better than it is. It is in a good location close to Oxford but the rooms are really shabby. The bathrooms in particular were old and tired . more

Stayed here for one Saturday night in mid November to visit our daughter at Uni. Room was clean & pleasant on the ground floor (room 12). We spent the afternoon in the bar catching up, good attentive staff throughout. We got chatting to Clare, events manager. She changed our restaurant booking after we'd made a mistake (the Indian restaurant had... more

Stayed 4 nights after getting a good deal for a Connoisseur room, breakfast included, with Expedia. The room was large with a sofa, balcony, queen bed, tv, tea and coffee, fridge, in-room safe, iron, etc. Bathroom very clean and nicely decorated. The hotel is well set back from the road so no traffic noise. There is a 150 yard walk... more

Very good hotel! Friendly staff, clean, good breakfast, close to the city centre. However, there are various rooms, our room was nice and spacious with windows on the ceiling (no view). Nice pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The only minus goes to very expansive Internet access on their computer in the lobby, 3 pounds for 15 minutes. more

My 18 year old daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 3 days in early October. The service was swift and excellent both in the reception and during breakfast in the restaurant. Breakfast consisted of a buffet with both English and continental choices in abundance. The twin room was spacious and clean. The perhaps best feature of this hotel... more

Footpath from hotel to River Thames, about 200m, and can walk along river to city centre in about 20 mins. Very clean, room with good facilities. Extensive breakfast buffet and good evening meals. Small indoor swimming pool. more

Having stayed at a FOUR Pillars hotel before, we thought we knew pretty much what to expect. However, when we arrived we were offered a very small room that smelt of cigar smoke. (all rooms ought to be non-smoking). The receptionist quickly changed our room to a much more pleasant one, without fuss or objection. that aside, we greatly enjoyed... more
