I wanted to stay at the Randolph MacDonald simply for the experience after watching so many Oxford based British Mystery series (Morse, Insp Lewis etc) on tv, and did just that last Christmas. It was expensive, but oh so much fun. They do occasionally have a B and B price, but even then it is a very expensive sleep. I... More

I had the misfortune to stay at The Randolph Hotel, the only 5star hotel in Oxford and I cannot express my dismay and disappointment enough. 5star? That's debateable. They are undergoing refurbishment, which I except, but the hotel had a dank smell about it, not a good start. Our room, for what we paid, was awful, nothing like shown on... More

Old farts reunion. We had twin rooms. Quite ordinary but still cost almost £200 per person. We didn't mind this as it is a 5 star hotel in the middle of Oxford and we paid for proximity and convenience. However breakfast was worthy of Little Chef in its darkest hour. Coffee and tea took ages to arrive, they ran out... More

If you want to stop in your room for a nap, to read a book or watch TV, don't stay here until the reno is finished. Also, very loud fire alarm testing comes through telephone on Mondays in the late morning. Leave early and come back late and you will be ok. Staff was trying to help, but noise was... More

My boyfriend booked us a room at the Randolph as a birthday treat, and the staff worked really hard to make it a really special night for us. The hotel is still recovering from fire damage, but you could hardly tell. The room was beautiful, and had everything you could ever want from a hotel room; fantastic bathroom, incredibly comfortable... More

This Oxford institution, with its grand reputation, proved an embarrassment and disaster for my wife and my celebration - as it was intended to be - of our wedding anniversary. Here is the salutary tale. We were given as a wedding gift a voucher for tea at the Randolph. We decided to take it up on our anniversary and told... More

Myself and my partner decided to treat ourselves to a last minute holiday, and chose this hotel. It is a fabulous location, and you never had to walk far to get anywhere. We arrived a bit early for check in, but we're able to sit in the bar with a free drink whilst our room was readied. Our room was... More

Our room was lovely (but a long walk from reception... Literally 5 minutes). I was disappointed to read on the website that the spa costs £15 per person... So I didn't bring my gym kit... Only to find out that the gym is free! The main issue is that breakfast was really poor.... I would say 3 star at best.... More

Stayed for a business trip, the rooms were large, perfectly pleasant & comfortable with good facilities. The bar is a little overpriced but a nice setting. We made use of the spa facilities one evening - although on the small side very nice but no pool.

I have always enjoyed an afternoon tea in the Randolph drawing room or a drink the bar before the cinema or theatre as is like stepping into another world. Particularly good after shopping in Oxford! It is like a sea of calm and the staff are always so helpful and charming. I often take friends visiting Oxford for tea who... More
