Echo other reviewers who experienced the terrible breakfast. Warm yogurt and orange juice, undercooked sausage, rubbery scrambled eggs, etc. We also had to deal with the noise level on Sat. night, and bees flying into the room, who were attracted by the street light right outside the window (no screens in the UK). Otherwise, the location is perfect, the staff... More

The Buttery is a in a great location for seeing central Oxford by foot. You emerge straight into The Broad, one of the most atmospheric streets in town, opposite the Trinity, close to Balliol, St John's, The Bodleian. The rooms and service are basic but ok, the staircases are steep, the breakfast in a crowded but friendly cafe, reasonable quality.... More

If you are looking for a central basic hotel this would be on the list. I stayed one night and for me that was enough! To be fair the hotel was undergoing significant work outside to the rear. I was unable to open my window due to scaffolding. The air con was not installed, simply left in the room with... More

I stayed one night here recently when enjoying a weekend in Oxford and would unreservedly recommend this as a base - it's on Broad Street so it is almost ideally situated to enjoy all the main attractions, restaurants, pubs, colleges, shops, market and all that this great city has to offer. They are all walk-able. Furthermore it is good value,... More

The buttery cafe appears ok as you enter. Things go downhill after ordering afternoon teas. No teacakes because the kitchen closes at 3.30!! I ordered 4 teas, one cream tea and a cake. Teas were delivered without enough milk. No sugar and no serviettes even with the cream tea. The teapot lid fell into the cup as we poured. Not... More

We stayed one night and wished we had been here our whole stay. We had the very top room--a double twin. We left the windows open so there was noise from the street, but we could have closed the windows and used the A/C. Breakfast was included and it was cooked to order plus pastries, juice, and coffee and tea.... More

Stayed here for almost a week for the Skoll conference. The staff was terrific. The breakfast always good and generous. The location was perfect for all points of interest in Oxford. Reasonably priced too. Rooms are cozy but very comfortable.

The best bit about the Buttery is obvious - it is smack in the middle of The Broad, directly Opposite Balliol College. So you can forget your car or buses and taxis. We had a lovely twin on the second floor front - and two fans had kindly been provided (there's an earlier review of the same room which notes... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here, after much hemming and hawing, because of the excellent location but I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I am SO glad we stayed here though! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They made sure our room was ready earlier than the standard time because they knew we were coming, which I thought... More
