The buttery cafe appears ok as you enter. Things go downhill after ordering afternoon teas. No teacakes because the kitchen closes at 3.30!! I ordered 4 teas, one cream tea and a cake. Teas were delivered without enough milk. No sugar and no serviettes even with the cream tea. The teapot lid fell into the cup as we poured. Not... More

We stayed one night and wished we had been here our whole stay. We had the very top room--a double twin. We left the windows open so there was noise from the street, but we could have closed the windows and used the A/C. Breakfast was included and it was cooked to order plus pastries, juice, and coffee and tea.... More

Stayed here for almost a week for the Skoll conference. The staff was terrific. The breakfast always good and generous. The location was perfect for all points of interest in Oxford. Reasonably priced too. Rooms are cozy but very comfortable.

The best bit about the Buttery is obvious - it is smack in the middle of The Broad, directly Opposite Balliol College. So you can forget your car or buses and taxis. We had a lovely twin on the second floor front - and two fans had kindly been provided (there's an earlier review of the same room which notes... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here, after much hemming and hawing, because of the excellent location but I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I am SO glad we stayed here though! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. They made sure our room was ready earlier than the standard time because they knew we were coming, which I thought... More

The Buttery is a very charming little hotel in the perfect location for seeing the sights in Oxford. All the best things to see are easily within walking distance. The stairways are winding and narrow, and the rooms can be quirky, but that adds to the charm if you have the right attitude. The staff are very friendly and helpful,... More

Being an historic building posed a few challenges that guests need to be aware of. If you have lots of heavy luggage then be prepared to carry them up some very narrow, steep steps to the reception area on the first floor. Then onto your room which for us was a deluxe room on the second floor at the front... More

Situated right in the centre of Oxford, the Buttery is in a perfect location for a weekend stay. Staff very friendly and helpful and the breakfast (included in the price) is decent. Rooms are good value compared with other hotels in Oxford, especially considering the central location. TV and wifi facilities are good and the de luxe rooms offer ample... More

This hotel claims to be 4star. Not true. The facilities hardly justify 1star. Room adequate but noisy (so called de luxe rooms face Broad Street - choose one at the back). Breakfast was appalling, served in the tatty cafe next door. Staff friendly.ŷ
