We came across this pub in 2012 and were immediately embraced by the warm atmosphere, particularly enhanced by the log fire. We liked it so much we returned when holidaying at Burford in 2013 and were not disappointed. We went back there again two weeks ago and had a bit of a shock. Despite 'log fire' being advertised on the... More

After a few nights of local hotel meals in Burford we tried The Royal Oak for a change for dinner. Well, what a hidden treasure it turned out to be!!! We both chose the pie --- and what a result!!!! Piping hot food. The plate was full with the most excellent pie (..pastry all round..) which was tasty and plentiful.... More

We both had the pulled belly pork and apple flavoured sauce served with an attractive selection of fresh green vegetables. This was delicious and extremely well presented. The pub was welcoming and attractive situated just off the main street in Burford. The hosts were attentive and friendly. This meal was well worth the cost. Will recommend to other friends in... A couple of us heard about the Royal Oak and that there was some live music being played the Saturday night. We were greeted by the new landlady Denise who was full of smiles and very welcoming. The landlord we met soon after and was very welcoming and had a great sense of humour. The pub was extremely clean and... More

This was a great place to visit and eat. Hopefully the new incumbents will keep up the standards. I was most amused by the vitriolic attack on the last landlords by the last reviewer, seems that poster must have had issues with them and most probably was banned from there as what was written by him was blatantly untrue. I... More

Myself and my husband went here this week for dinner. safe to say we shall not be returning! The landlord was rude and unwelcoming. We asked for a table and he shrugged walked into the kitchen and came out, grunted yes and then turned his back on us. We walked out. The landlord and landlady before these were fab! Such... More

Lovely down to earth pub. Great food - chicken and ham pie and calves liver and bacon. A real find among over priced and 'touristy' pubs. The landlord and lady are great - friendly, informative and welcoming. Only pub I would go to in Burford.

I have been visiting this place for years, every time I am passing through Burford. Usually there is a great log fire; this time the landlord apologised for the fact that the chimney was out of order. The food is always good: this time I had a very good steak with all the trimmings, plus excellent Wadworth's 6X.

We stumbled on this great pub at the start of a girlie weekend. The food was excellent and all home made. The Irish landlord was very welcoming and we loved his dry sense of humour. Definitely worth a visit and we will back again another year. Thank you very much!
