After visiting housesteads roman fort on hadrian's wall we asked local advice on where to go for lunch. We are happy that we followed this advice - twice brewed is a classic. Sunday roast for lunch with the twice brewed bitter - very Nice. The rest if our group enjoyed the chicken burger, beef roll. Good!

Had dinner here and we both enjoyed our meals. The sausages and mustard mash were delicious and my curry was homemade and tasty. Unfortunately the two starters we wanted were off the menu which was a little disappointing. However, we were full after over main courses so it didn't really matter.

We were booked into this pub as part of our walking weekend. When we arrived there had been a glitch with their booking system and our rooms had been double booked. Whilst we were initially very disappointed the assistant manager went the extra mile to find us somewhere else to sleep, arranged a taxi both ways and fed three of... More

Stayed for two nights recently. Was given a single room at the far end of the hotel upstairs. Not en-suite, small, no TV, and the bathroom was down a corridor, and the decor was old, but the price reflected this (£37 per night). Food ok but not great. Staff friendly although the hotel was busy (tourist season) so they could... More

We arrived after a long day of walking the Wall. We had the best room in the inn, worth paying a little extra to have the only room with a bath, the bed was very comfortable, we slept well, also this room is at the back of the inn away from the road. Food and service was excellent, friendly staff.

The welcome here when you come off the moors or Hadrians wall is warm and the beer and food are good. We chose a room which was not ensuite for £60 and whilst the general standard of the room was good, the shower and toilet facilities were not. Showers that wouldn't work, doors that wouldn't lock, toilets that wouldn't flush.... More

Recently spent two nights and although the food and beer was great and the staff were very helpful, the room was not so good. We booked a premium room but the 'view' to the rear of the inn was ruined by a massively overgrown leylandii which obstructed nearly the full height of the window. There was also a loose toilet... We walked west along Hadrian's Wall from Housesteads Fort. The westerly wind is bitter and constant, so wrap up. The views are amazing and there is a real sense of history here. Some three miles from the fort we were in dire need of a watering hole and headed towards a large white-fronted building off to the left (the only... More

The owner and all the staff were perfect, you'd be hard pushed to find friendlier people in hospitality. The food, both dinner and breakfast were also excellent. The Inn itself though is in a desparate need of modernisation. My mattress and pillow should have been retired a long time along. The walls were thin and I heard all the noise... More

This is a very busy inn that was full of walkers, cyclists and other tourists from all over. We had good food in the bar for dinner and the rooms were clean. However our double bed was made up of two single matresses which was not as comfy as we would wish. I would stay again as long as we... More
