We stayed at six B&B's/hotels during our walk along the Hadrian's Wall national trail and this was my husband's favorite place to stay. This hotel is about half a mile off the trail, which isn't bad and the walk there is all down hill. It was certainly great from a convenience perspective; We walked in, checked in, ate dinner, went... more

Stayed a night walking Hadrian's Wall trail. Three real ales was a good start. But the room was a disappointment. No central heating on and the fire gave up the ghost during the evening. Curtain rail was coming off. The hot water was anything but and there was no heating in the bathroom. No shampoo supplied which was a surprise... more

Stayed at this hotel for one night and it was delightful. Booking via the hotel's website was very straightforward. On arrival staff were very helpful and we were shown to a lovely big room, complete with 4 poster bed. The decor in the bathroom was slightly jaded, but everything was in working order! The number of locals eating in the... more

I stayed for three nights in December and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is basically a pub but all no smoking of course but has a well above average kitchen for a pub! All meals are generous and relatively cheap for what you get. This is just as well as there is nothing else around you as an alternative. Vegetables... more

We discovered this hotel on a recent trip through the English countryside tracking Hadrian's Wall. What a delight to find a hotel which identified so keenly with the stories from "All Creatures Great and Small." Expecting to have bland, English fare, I was pleased to receive a flavorful, generous portion of Steak and Ale Pie with fresh broccoli as a... more

We had visited the Hadrian on several occasions in the past, and enjoyed it greatly. However, on visiting the Hadrian for a drink, we observed that they displayed a visa sign, and tried to pay with a card, as we frequently do in many pubs. The barman refused to take our payment, although the drinks had already been poured. He... more

On each occasion we have stayed here we have been made very welcome by both staff and the regular customers. With comfortable beds, a fabulous menu which changes daily and a breakfast to die for, what more... more
