If you want to live your life under a rock and not experience the true meaning of adventure, then do not visit Thornley House. The Homely House, Hosts, Animals, Environment and nearby village were outstanding. Can't wait to go back next year. It was in Summary one of the best B&B experiences I have ever had and I travel a... We stayed one night after a family wedding in Hexham. Eileen is a most welcoming, slightly eccentric but wonderful hostess who made us feel completely at home. We slept like logs and woke up to a great breakfast and a happy walk round the garden and the chance to feed apples to the two donkeys (Sidney and Gilbert). The cats... More

What a wonderful 2 nights stay at the end of June. Many thanks to Shirley who made us very welcome with tea and cakes on arrival. The room was lovely and the bed super comfortable. It wasn't a disadvantage to have an external bathroom which was stunning original art deco. A perfect base for exploring Hadrian's wall and only a... More

We really didn't want to leave after two night's stay at Thornley House. We were made exceptionally welcome by Mike and Denise who were there to meet and greet in the absence Eileen who was on her travels. The first and most important thing was to "meet the felines", each and everyone adorable and not forgetting Sidney and GIlbert, the... More

Myself, my parents and Aunt and Uncle stayed at Thornley House at the end of May 2014. We were attending a family wedding in Allendale. This place is absolutely stunning! The grounds and gardens are beautiful and should definitely be visited even if you aren't staying as a guest. The gardens and grounds are often open to the public. The... More

I have just returned from an eight day stay at Thornley House and had an excellent vacation. I have stayed with Eileen regularly since 1990 and have always been made most welcome and comfortable by her and her helper, Shirley. It is Northern hospitality at its best. The house is extremely comfortable and a good night's sleep guaranteed. Only the... More

I,m pleased you enjoyed your stay. According to radio 4, Northumberland is the best place to live in Britain. The roads are empty and you only hear owls, sheep or donkeys at night at Thornley House More

We stayed here on our coast 2 coast bike ride. The owner was very nice and the actual house and gardens were fab. Not my cup of tea but I have got to say I will remember this experience as we have found moments of the stay very funny. Downside was the breakfast not good and the cat theme is... More

I, m sorry you din't appreciate the cat theme but I assure you I don;t have any "cat tat". The paintings are mostly originals and the ornaments are hand painted and brought from my travels. I advertise my B and B as a place for cat lovers and it is not suitable for those who don,t like cats I,m sorry... More

The much discussed cats are not a problem, unless you're allergic, we found them fascinating. The house is very nicely fitted out with souvenirs of Eileen's world travels, some of which she shared with us, very interesting too. Bedrooms, we had the en suite double, was roomy and comfortable, breakfast more than enough choice and quantity. The garden, field and... More

Stayed for one night last week and were thoroughly impressed by the location, house and rooms. It is important to note the house is home to five cats, and wouldn't be suitable for those who don't like cats. All in all, an enjoyable stay in what is a very clean, warm and impressive house with beautiful gardens and views.

Stayed here on our way up to (rainy) Scotland and again 12 days later on our way back. What a lovely house full of all Eileen's beautiful treasures from her extensive travels. She was such an interesting host and looked after us beautifully. The cats were gorgeous. Ivanna slept on my husbands bed for half the night to be replaced... More
