We have visited briar lea several times over the years and as always we never want to leave. Nigel and Norma are a lovely couple and always friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spotless and lovely now they have been decorated. The breakfast is always delicious and plenty to chose from. Ideal position for all attractions. We will be back... More

We stayed here for two nights on 22/3/14 with friends. Really really nice place to stay, great hosts ( Nigel & Norma ) and our room was spotless. Great breakfast to start the day off, we were told the way into town and to be honest you are less than a ten minute walk either by the river or by... More

Thank you. We always enjoy reading the reviews sent by guests who have enjoyed their stay at Briar Lea. York is a fantastic place to visit, for a day or two, or as a base for a Yorkshire holiday, and if they like the place they are staying at, it goes a long way towards an enjoyable break. More

Our second holiday break at this guest house, and will defiantly return again. Owners very friendly and helpful, can check in at mid day instead of the usual 2pm - 3pm, so more time to spend in York. Only a 10 min walk to the city centre, either through a park or along river side.

We received a warm welcome, weren't overly fussed over so able to settle in nicely. We were told the easiest ways to get back into town and despite it looking a decent walk, it turned out to be really close, especially taking the shortcut through the museum gardens. Room was at back, very comfy with everything we needed for our... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased you found everything to your liking except the guests next door who were noisy and thoughtless. Sadly we were only aware of this next morning, and the guests had left. This is a rare occurrence at Briar Lea, particularly as we don't accept group bookings, including stag... More

My husband and I spent 1 night at Briar Lea. It was a short walk into York either by the river or by the road. The room was lovely and warm with a welcoming tea/coffee making tray. After getting in the shower I didn't want to come out, plenty of hot water both evening and morning. After a good nights... More

Had a great stay at Briar Lea Guest House. Cheerful and friendly hosts and the location was perfect for a 10 minute walk via the Museum Gardens or along the river. York itself stands as one of the top places to visit in the North.

As other reviews have said Nigel and Norma make every effort, helping with parking, providing great breakfasts and a friendly ambiance. The room was small but comfortable, with every we needed for a short stay. We particularly liked the location, 10 minutes walk from the city centre by several routes, and the river walk particularly nice.

We called ahead to let Norma know we were going to be arriving late and still arrived later than expected (almost 10pm) but Nigel was waiting to help us. He moved his car so we could park our car right in front and then helped us with our luggage. I wanted the kids to experience what it was like to... More

The room we had was too small. We struggled to pass each other and we are only small people. The decore is 20 years out of date. The free wifi didn't work most of the time. On saying that the owners were nice & the breakfast was good. Location although outside the walls was good, only a 10 Minuit walk... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sad that the Briar Lea did not live up to your expectations. The rooms in most Victorian terraced houses are slightly small, but our prices always reflect this. Many guests need the room as a base and as long as they receive a clean room with a comfy... More
