Stayed here for a couple of nights visiting York. Not posh just nice comfy accommodation, light spacious room, very very clean and homely. Comfortable bed ++++ we slept very well! The staff are very friendly and really looked after us, cooked breakfasts were absolutely excellent and we had one evening meal which was equally as good and the pub has... more

From begining to end my husband and I were pleased with all the courses put infront of us. The starter of Garlic mushrooms arrived to me and I was puzzled by what was infront of me as it looked like nothing I had seen before, but oh the flavour, wow!!! The sauce was without a doubt the nicest I have... more

My partner & I went to York last weekend (Saturday 26th September) and managed to get a double room in this hotel for the night. I've come to realise that parking is a bit of an issue when it comes to York, but this hotel had it's own private parking at the back of the pub which I found very... more

We stopped by here for an evening meal (staying elsewhere in city). The choice of food is very good indeed. The steaks were cooked to perfection and came with a vast array of extras on the plate - a really hearty (yorkshire style) evening meal. Chose wine from the wine list too. Not expensive but very good quality; Was brought... more

stayed for 3 nights and experienced a very warm friendly atmosphere.Good food, good breakfast and large room overlooking Gillygate.Only drawback the huge, cushioned window seat where you can waste a lot of time gazing instead of walking around York...thoroughly recommended for a stay-in-a-pub. more

Russian couple. Stayed for one night only. Didn't book, just bumped into this B&B while browsing the city for a hotel in the night. Very warm and comfortable. Nice neat large double! Excellent breakfast! Thanks more

Stayed here for two nights in April. We had a spacious family room (double bed plus a fold-out couch). Even the bathroom was roomy (a rare commodity in the UK!). The shower was a bit shonky, but down the hall was another bathroom with a better one. The location is great, and York is such a wonderful place to walk... more

Visited York at the end of November 2006 for an overnight stay to do some Christmas shopping and take part in a ghost hunt. After spending ages looking for suitable accommodation a work colleague suggested The Gilly Gate Inn. A lovely little public house hidden away on Gilly Gate. What a treasure, the manager (sorry forgot his name) was lovely... more
