A quaint hotel with fantastic views carpets a bit shabby but nothing major all of the staff were friendly and helpfull we had a 2 year old with us and they were always chatting to my little boy. The breakfast was tasty and filling views very good. Hotel rooms were a bit hot . Overall could be updated a bit... more

This is one of the worst places I have stayed in the United Kingdom and would not wish for any one else to have to reside in this hotel. Poor rooms, food and staff. Do not think of complaining the do not care. more

My fiancee and I stayed at The Talbot (English Rose Hotel) in Malton for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. From the pictures on their website I expected the hotel to be in a countryside location and so I was a little (but pleasantly) surprised when it was at the side of the main road into Malton, just... more

I know not up to date but following previous stay in 2007 was told modernisation was taking place. Food disgusting which resulted in a complaint yet to book out still had to pay for stay even though food not ate. After complaint ignored at breakfast had to move on costing further costs as regards travel and accommodation. E.G. no drinks... more

After reading recent reviews about this hotel we were absolutely dreading our weekend away with friends the reviews were awful. We have stayed at the Talbot on a few occassions over the years and have always had a great time and again this time over valentines weekend (which the hotel was full) was no different, the hotel yes is an... more

Stayed here for a local friend's party- no real choice so concerned after reading previous reviews. Arrived to a dirty hall and a surly reception. On a cold evening shown to a room with no heating whatsoever. Moved to the only other availble room, with zero heating either & a foul smell of paint. A fire was eventually provided. Asked... more

We booked our stay through harry shaw, a 1 night stay with visits to york, whitby and scarborough. We were glad it was only one night! This place makes fawlty towers seem like the hilton. The staff knew weeks in advance that a coach party would be turning up but on arrival the entrace lobby was completely covered in leaves... more

We had booked this hotel as a romantic weekend away, and then read the trip advisor reviews, so we were expecting the worst. I have stayed in some old hotels before, so the decor was appropriate, although it did remind me of Faulty towers. The hotel is in need of some TLC, but remeber it is an old building. The... more

From the reviews on this and other websites I thought this hotel was going to be awful, which meant I got a pleasant surprise! It is in a nice area, with field from one side and the the other side is the town of Malton. The hotel itself is obviously an old building, but the rooms are nice and clean,... more

I make a point of reading guest reviews with a fairly open mind however having stayed with my wife for 1 night at the Talbot Hotel I must agree with much of the negativity expressed in published reviews. The hotel is in dire need of up-dating and appears to be well and truly stuck in the 1960's at best. While... more
