Booked for my birthday in November, friendly and easy checkin, were a bit disappointed that work was being carried out and it was surrounded by scaffolding. That being said there was no sign of any workman over the weekend. Staff friendly, room was fine. It's a bit of a walk along the riverside into York, but weather was ok so... More

We spent 2 nights in this hotel. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. i can't comment on the food because we ate out however the hotel itself is situated within an easy walk into York centre. It was very clean and comfortable and has a great selection of ales in the bar. We would definitely stay again. The rates... More

Heading back South from a birding trip in the Cairngorm National Park I needed a stop over mid country and beautiful city of York fitted the bill perfectly. An hour out of York an internet search threw up the Lighthorseman as offering a room at a discounted rate and I will admit that the price was the main factor for... More

Booked in without any problems to staff who were very helpful and friendly. Hotel appeared a little dark, but was well lit by natural light aside from the corridors but they had adequate lighting for them. The room we stayed in was lovely. There was noise heard from the bar until it closed, but that was around 11pm, so we... More

Thwaites brew good beers. "Wainwright" and "Lancaster Bomber" are both excellent. The Lighthorseman is a Thwaites pub. Sadly, this pub never have any! They had some Bomber last visit, but the second round was off. We sent it back and asked for "Wainwright" none available again! This is the fifth time it's happened. Has the brewery run out? What's going... More

Dear KGGMS, we are sorry to hear you've moved on. Over the last few months Thwaites have had several bad batches of Wainwrights and Bomber, which has led to the inconsistency of our ale stocks. Thwaites have sent us a free barrel to run a promotion of buy half get half free which will be running for the next few weeks... More

I have stayed in many hotels and this is by far the WORST hotel I have ever stayed at and the worst nights sleep I have ever had. Where to begin in what went wrong?? 1)Dirty underwear was in the drawers, we let the staff down at the bar know and they promised to remove it however it wasn't removed.... More

One of the cheapest hotels available during the first weekend of December- a very busy time in York due to the Christmas Markets, i was tempted by the excellent reviews. An excellent location, just a couple of minutes walk and you're smack bang in the centre of York. The room rate was very good and the staff were friendly and... More

Stayed two nights - excellent for cleanliness, service, location. Comfortable bed. Lovely walks by the misty river. Hosts Dan and Racheal couldn't have been more welcoming. Historic building with original features such as decorative ceiling roses and original doors and windows. Good Italian food in restaurant. Easy access to York. We will definitely come back.
