As other reviewers have remarked, there is a somewhat sterile feel to the entrance and hallways in the Bar Convent. However, we had a spacious, clean room with a comfortable bed, and we enjoyed the chance to explore the building (how many other B&Bs have a "secret chapel"?). We can't speak to the value for money because our room was... More

I stayed here whilst visiting family. The single room was well laid out and was bigger than I was expecting. The en suite was also large. The hotel is quirky being a converted convent and the building is lovely. There is a lounge and kitchen for guest use although the food served in the restaurant is delicious. There is a... More

Walk out of York train station, turn right, walk just 5 minutes, cross a busy road and you are there. On entering you won' sense a warm relaxed atmosphere, in fact it's bordering on clinical. However the staff were very friendly and gave us all the information we needed. After using the very creaky lift to the 2nd floor we... More

We visited York on a Friday morning to meet up with family in the Convent Cafe before Xmas and we stayed the night here making the meeting highly convenient. A great friendly reception with all details clearly explained and we were led to our room and shown the sitting room facility on the way. Our room was spacious with a... More

Stayed here for two nights while I was in York for the snooker at the Barbican. Great location, 5 minutes from the railway station, 10 minutes to city centre. Just stayed in the basic single room, but very well equipped. TV, tea/coffee,wi-fi,fresh towels. Plenty of showers/toilets on every floor. Great cooked breakfast both mornings. Would have no hesitation in staying... More

Dear VampirWolfblood - thanks for your review! We're glad everything went well with your stay, and the room had everything you need. Although we have plenty of en suite rooms, we like to keep the basic single rooms for people who are travelling, holidaying on a budget, or just don't necessarily need an en suite. I'm also happy to hear... More

York is very busy at this time of year, so we're lucky to find a room. This place is warm, welcoming, and comfortable. 4 minute walk from the rail station, close to lots of bars, restaurants, with a bit of a walk to attractions like the Minster, however there are bus stops close if you don't fancy hitting the pavements.... My wife and I have just returned from a couple of days in York where we stayed overnight at this historic convent, which is conveniently located just outside the mediaeval city walls only five minutes' walk from the station. We found the room very comfortable and clean with very modern fittings, including en-suite shower and toilet and an adjustable fan... More

Had a good stay with my family. ~230GBP for 7 family members across 3 rooms. Rooms were very nice, breakfast was very nice (Please get the traditional english!), and the location was absolutely superb. Very close to the train station, the wall, and York Central. Would go again in a heart beat!

Dear Alex - thanks for your review! We're thrilled that you and your family had an enjoyable stay with us. We think we might be the closest bed and breakfast to York train station. If not, we're certainly one of the nearest, and a lot of our guests are glad to be so close to the city centre too. We... More

Recently refurbished, quality furniture and bathroom fittings. Large room. Excellent breakfast. We really enjoyed staying here and definitely recommend it. If driving here, beware traffic is very slow the last couple of kilometres. Only parking option is probably at the car park in nearby Nunnery Lane which cost about 11pound overnight, and has vey tight spaces, even for small cars.... More
