Stayed 2 nights with my mother as a treat for her to visit York. The Convent is very impressive as you walk in with a lovely warm atmosphere. We stayed in the St Peter room which was very clean and comfortable. The ensuite was also very clean with good fittings and a great shower. The breakfasts are amazing! Staff very... More

Steeped in history this grade 1 listed, characterful building houses a working convent school as well as 19 spotlessly clean rooms for B&B visitors. The award winning breakfasts are excellent. It is opposite a Weatherspoons pub with great food bargains and a short walk from the city centre. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. A perfect place to stay... More

I stayed two days at the Bar Convent B&B and found it basic, but clean and comfortable. It's close to all the attractions I wanted to see in York, as well as a few minutes walk to the train station. The building is a warren of small rooms and suites, but that's how they built them back then. There's a... More

Live only 45 minutes away; but could have been using this fabulous facility before now - HAD I known, well at least I can share this with others. Peaceful, functional, great service and facilities in the heart of York; less than 10 minutes from the rail station or city centre. Used café, outside seating area, and hotel accommodation - with... Exceptionally clean room and very welcoming and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. Loved the quirkiness of the building and the history of the place is fascinating, wonderful garden just off the café and so peaceful considering you were situated on perhaps the busiest crossroads in York. Food was great, the scrambled eggs and sausage were excellent, Stay here... More

Hungry at work my self and colleague decided to purchase a hot sandwich for lunch. So being not far away from the Bar Convent and i was on my bike that day decided to phone in for a sandwich to be picked up by myself. We looked at the menu on line and decided on a hot sausage and caramalised... More

Stayed two nights at the Bar Convent for the price and location. About 7 minutes' walk to the railway station, and easy to find. Just cross the road, and you are within the city walls. The place is old, but has its charm. Quaint would be the perfect word to describe it. Room is small but adequate. I think most,... More

This was my first stay and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If travelling by car, it's a bit of a pain (and expensive) feeding the ticket machine in the public car park but for those using the train, it's a brilliant location. The room and en-suite was excellent - very nice to stay somewhere different from the usual 'chains'. The breakfast... More

Booked with the wife for 1 night prior to a Wedding in York. It was very well priced and included a cooked breakfast which was actually very good. I have to say this is one of the quirkiest Hotels we've ever stopped in. As the name suggests its was a Convent until 1985. The Room was large and en-suite (some... More
