This was my first stay and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If travelling by car, it's a bit of a pain (and expensive) feeding the ticket machine in the public car park but for those using the train, it's a brilliant location. The room and en-suite was excellent - very nice to stay somewhere different from the usual 'chains'. The breakfast... More

Booked with the wife for 1 night prior to a Wedding in York. It was very well priced and included a cooked breakfast which was actually very good. I have to say this is one of the quirkiest Hotels we've ever stopped in. As the name suggests its was a Convent until 1985. The Room was large and en-suite (some... More

The B&B is in fact in the same building as a still-functioning convent. The rooms are named after saints; our room was named after one of the gospel writers. This was a bit odd for us (maybe even a little on the creepy side), but seemed somehow appropriate for the venue. They also display a note on the door that... More

Situated just outside Micklegate, the Bar Convent is about 20 minutes away from York Minster and the city centre. It's a very small hotel with little rooms, but our room had lots of light and large windows. The place may look old from the outside but the rooms are set up nicely and are modern, and very clean. I only... More

This is a wonderful place, close to the train station, parking available, if needed. There is a cafe on the ground floor where you can be served breakfast Continental style or extra for Full English. There are some nuns still living there but it is run by other people. I think a lot of churches use it for retreats. If... More

Looking for somewhere clean, but not expensive; non-smoking, no loud music from guests, no piped music in lifts etc, and definitely no loud parties and drunken revelers? Then without a doubt this is a good place to stay in York; and in my opinion after several visits, definitely the best. Only a short stroll from the railway station. Run by... More

seeing from the exterior , i can't be sure if that was a B&B hotel, i wonder where is the entrance on our arrival, a rainy day, 6 pm... the new staff took us to a lift with chairs ! to go up to second floor, but he's mistaken a single room for us... :( we can see that room... More

I stayed one night at the Bar Convent in a single en suite room. The room was great with lovely big shower and everything you need. One little improvement would be heavier curtains, as the room was too light for my liking. The big area to improve is the cafe. While the food was lovely, it is far too expensive.... More

As others have said, this is not a modern boutique hotel, but is welcoming and (in the best sense of the word) homely. Stayed in a comfortable single room with tea- making facilities and good quality clock radio. Was not en suite, but facilities just across the corridor so not a problem. There is a common room with TV, and... More

Bright and cheery quite rooms, just outside of historic walls. LOCATION This B&B is a safe 5 minute walk from the York train station and about a 15 minute walk to the tourist attractions. There are 2 pubs across the street from the B&B and a 5 minute walk to other pubs and shops. CONDITION The B&B itself is average,... More
