Clean, tidy room and very helpful welcome from the duty staff. The Bar Convent is centrally located close to the top of Micklegate and a short walk from the train station and a slightly longer, but certainly do-able walk to the centre of York. The room I had - St Marks - was very roomy and comfortable. The place does... More

Only a short walk from the train station & the town center, the convent provides an exceedingly clean & peaceful haven, especially nice for a single traveller. Easy to find & within walking distance of everything. Price is moderate & the food delicious & simple.

A really nice location near the main attractions. It has an absolutely beautiful chapel (along with an old priest hiding hole and St Margaret Clitherow's relic). Furthermore it has a lovely Cafè and gift shop and is well worth a visit. The Staff are friendly. It has a museum also.

Clean tidy, close to town and the train station, staff very helpful. Did not give it 5stars as minor faults with decor. Was allowed to check in early. There was plenty of bedding and everything was so handy for York and all its attractions. Will be returning soon

Stayed here for one night in one of the family rooms, which we couldn't fault, clean, comfy beds and well presented. The reception staff were very helpfull and the reception area/ shop area/'lounge' area was lovely, although the stairs upto the rooms were in need of refurbishment. The breakfast was good although the dinning area is a bit cramped. It is very... Stayed 2 nights with my mother as a treat for her to visit York. The Convent is very impressive as you walk in with a lovely warm atmosphere. We stayed in the St Peter room which was very clean and comfortable. The ensuite was also very clean with good fittings and a great shower. The breakfasts are amazing! Staff very... More

Steeped in history this grade 1 listed, characterful building houses a working convent school as well as 19 spotlessly clean rooms for B&B visitors. The award winning breakfasts are excellent. It is opposite a Weatherspoons pub with great food bargains and a short walk from the city centre. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. A perfect place to stay... More

I stayed two days at the Bar Convent B&B and found it basic, but clean and comfortable. It's close to all the attractions I wanted to see in York, as well as a few minutes walk to the train station. The building is a warren of small rooms and suites, but that's how they built them back then. There's a... More

Live only 45 minutes away; but could have been using this fabulous facility before now - HAD I known, well at least I can share this with others. Peaceful, functional, great service and facilities in the heart of York; less than 10 minutes from the rail station or city centre. Used café, outside seating area, and hotel accommodation - with... Exceptionally clean room and very welcoming and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. Loved the quirkiness of the building and the history of the place is fascinating, wonderful garden just off the café and so peaceful considering you were situated on perhaps the busiest crossroads in York. Food was great, the scrambled eggs and sausage were excellent, Stay here... More
