This hotel has such an amazing location, just across the road from the Minster! The bells are quite something, an incredible sound which you have to embrace while you are there. If you are going to have a hang over or late nights, stay further away from this part of York as there are loads of bells. Personally I loved... more

We stayed in room 2 for one night and had a fab time. The room was just beautiful, I would have loved to have seen the rest. Breakfast was great and location perfect. So much more personality than the boring chain hotels. Would go back in a flash and would recommend this to anyone who loves character and wonderful service more

We came here for a short honeymoon after getting married last week. We honestly could not have picked better. On arrival, they were still cleaning our room, so we had a drink in the bar. Fortunately for us, we had chosen to stay on the weekend of the beer festival, so we had a brilliant selection to go at! The... more

First thing to bear in mind is that this is a busy inn - do not expect to turn up to a quiet/slick hotel lobby. You check in at the bar which is always bustling with both locals and tourists. We liked that. The service was friendly, helpful and welcoming from the moment we arrived. As we had rooms 11... more

We booked this weekend away, to celebrate our 6th anniversary, so thought we would push the boat out, and pay a little more for our stay than usual. We left it quite late, and booked the mini double ( £120.00 per room per night) We decided after reading various reviews, that we would travel by train, so as not to... more

my partner booked this as a surprise romantic night away, and i was not disappointed. We arrived just after lunch and went straight to the hotel, where we were shown straight up to our room, number3. It was lovely, with a 4 poster bed. The room was decoracted in an old fashioned style, but not dated it was very tastefully... more

I can confirm that this hotel is in administration, and in my opinion should be closed down. We stayed at the Guy Fawkes inn 2 years ago and had a fantastic stay, unfortunately since than it has changed hands and without beating around the bush it is an absolute shambles, no thought is given to the guest and all attention... more

We did a DVD documentary on the place about the hauntings, yes it is haunted but nicely, and I was really impressed with the place. The rooms are great, well presented and clean, the staff are friendly and the food was really good. The breakfast was excellent and I would eat there again. 5 stars. more

First a confession - we didn't stay here but we did have a good nose around and looked at a couple of the rooms. We heard about it after we asked the tour guide on the excellent York Viking Walk for a nice pub for an evening meal. We wanted somewhere old fashioned and homely. We enjoyed our meal so... more
