I can't thank the owners of this B&B enough for their help and sympathy during our stay. We were due to arrive in York in the afternoon, but I came down with food poisoning and was admitted to the hospital in Huddersfield for the evening. My husband phoned the Dairy Guest House from the hospital and explained that we had... more

Pleasant, polite and helpful service. A little further out of town than other places, but a reasonable, easy enough walk. Interesting building, with great views of the courtyard at the back, but did find the 'character' factor of the decor, in our room at least, was lacking. Still, clean and comfortable, and breakfast was good. more

I booked an overnight stay at this Guest House for my Partner and I for his 31st birthday. I remembered visiting York as a child with the school and I enjoyed the place and wanted him to have a couple of days there for his birthday. He wasnt disappointed with York and we both wished we could have stayed longer.... more

Staff were friendly on arrival and during breakfast the next morning. Paid £70 for 1 night in the most expensive room in the guesthouse. It was well equipped but a little cramped. The bathroom was cold as there was no heating. The bin in the bathroom hadn't been emptied since the previous guests left. Breakfast was good. The guesthouse, although... more

We stayed here and were a bit concerned as between booking and staying here a couple of less than favourable reviews were posted! In the end we needn't have worried. The double room was a decent size (although the bathroom was very small). The room was very clean which is always my main concern. The person who complained about the... more

We picked this guesthouse because it looked good on the internet. Big mistake. The room was grubby and cramped. The decor was like taking a step back into the 1980s. Think cheap and nasty pine panelling, shiny orange bedspread and nasty fussy shiny orange curtains that did not meet. The overall effect was not unlike a tarted up garden shed.... more

I'm really sorry that the reviewer felt the need to lambast the Guest House in this way. The room is well presented and fitted out and is not cramped; the bed is a standard double; the bathroom is large. I concede that there may have been excessive noise that night. I was fully prepared to explain the circumstances to the...

The guest house is about ten minutes walk to the town centre and is on a busy junction next to a Sainsbury`s shop. My room was clean and nice. When you check in you are asked to choose from a list, which cooked breakfast you require next day . i.e. do you want scrmbled eggs,Full english etc., I found this... more

I really can't let this comment pass without a response as it contains some fundamental inaccuracies. Bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, hash brown, mushrooms - all freshly cooked (most definitely not microwaved). Fills a plate! A choice of 5 cereals is sufficient for most people - I can only apologise if the reviewer's favourite wasn't amongst them. Don't forget the fruit,...

Had a very good experience. The location was excellent (a 10 minute walk from the rail station and a 5 minute walk from the city walls), and Melton's restaurant is a few doors down the street. Our host gave excellent restaurant and pub recommendations. The breakfast was very good and was served by friendly and helpful staff. Our room and... more

We had a great time. We booked a family room for our family of 4. The room was a little crowded with all our luggage, but worked out very well for us. The hosts were friendly. We arrived at the time in the afternoon when they are normally not available and we forgot the email they had sent us with... more

Really 3.5 Stars. The Dairy Guest House is a beautiful place. and the location is fantastic. Ian is a very friendly & helpful host who made numerous recommendations for great places to eat. He also saved us half a day of doing laundry by providing the name & location of a Laundrette who would do our washing for us. The... more

After reading this review, I checked out the clomplaint about the plumbing and did indead find it to be very noisey when the hot tap was turned on, it actually sounded like a tuba! If the guests had advised me of this at the time, it would have been rectified immediatley. The problem has now been repaired (It was a...
