The charm of the hotel is its age, history and location. Tastefully "restored" with an eclectic mixture of furniture and antiques. A wonderful and quirky place. The food was very good. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Overall an excellent stay which we intend to repeat in the future.

The private room we had for our party of 8 from a 1pm(ish) meal that ran on to 5pm(ish) with espresso martinis in the library after the meal was from start to finish and starter to dessert - just brilliant. Waiting staff have just that right balance of being there when you need them and being invisible when you don't.... More

Amazing hotel, luxury decor, warm and cosy. However food needs vast improvement. £18 lamb dish requested and served lump of fat. At this price I would expect far better, and I was surprised the chef even bothered to serve it. Overall £90 for a meal for 2 which to say the least was disappointing. Not even offered a small basket... More

Thank you for your lovely comments about the hotel in general, however I can only apologise that your meal with us in the evening was such a let down. Had you raised the issue with us we would have immediately offered to replace your dish. I have already raised your review with the kitchen staff and will speak with my... More

Went back with my wife for our wedding anniversary in early February . We stayed in "Williams" and once again we were not dissapointed. The staff were great and the breakfast first class. The library is almost complete and looks great , what a beautiful space to relax in when having a nightcap. The atmosphere of the old building is... More

Grays court is absolutely beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our two nights there recently. We stayed in the Cumberland Suite which has great views of the garden and city walls. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was delicious. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for something unique but with a 'family friendly' atmosphere.

Only a few rooms, family run; excellent service, accommodation and breakfast! The beautiful garden even has direct access to the city wall walkway. This is a lovely place to stay right by York Minster. We will definitely return.

Grays Court was the most wonderful venue for celebrating our daughter's 18th birthday. We booked 'private dining' for a group of 8 (including two small children). The room we were given was absolutely spectacular and the service, food and overall ambience was first class. Grays Court exudes class amongst the spectacular Georgian interiors. Our calls during the initial enquiry and... More

Dear Claire, While I thank you for making the effort to post a review, I confess that I struggled to decipher your message. What I managed to glean is that you had to wait to be noticed, and that one of my staff was on his phone. I was puzzled by that comment as all of the front of house... More

What a shame......lovely hotel, great location but the Cumberland suite was freezing. Staff tried to help on the day and eventually agreed to move us to another room. There was no management to deal with our complaint so we had to take this up by email when we returned home, disappointing replies and lack of understanding - we will not... More

Me and my partner fancied a trip to york as we had never been. What a great trip it was. Wish we were there for more than 1 night. The hotel itself is beautiful and perfect for city centre location. Service is fantastic! Our room was turned into a double even though it was a twin, they kindly emailed asking... More
