What a shame......lovely hotel, great location but the Cumberland suite was freezing. Staff tried to help on the day and eventually agreed to move us to another room. There was no management to deal with our complaint so we had to take this up by email when we returned home, disappointing replies and lack of understanding - we will not... More

Me and my partner fancied a trip to york as we had never been. What a great trip it was. Wish we were there for more than 1 night. The hotel itself is beautiful and perfect for city centre location. Service is fantastic! Our room was turned into a double even though it was a twin, they kindly emailed asking... More

I have often seen this hotel from the walls and from the courtyard. Last week end we had occasion to visit. What a fascinating place. lots of history and a lovely ambience. We popped in for a light lunch. What a find. Excellent food beautifully served by a most friendly and helpful staff. Good wine and bottled beer. We could... More

I had occasion to spend 4 nights at Grays Court as a Wedding guest and was very impressed with the hotel. It is a fascinating historic building in the shadow of the Minster .The building reeks [ pleasantly !! ] of the ancient past with its flagstone floor and oak paneled walls . The public rooms have been stylishly designed... More

We recently visited York for our fourth anniversary - and booked the Grays Court as the perfect mid week treat. The hotel and the grounds are beautiful in the most perfect location. The reception rooms, bar and breakfast room are wonderful with the perfect mix of furnishing and decor. Our rooms - Elizabeth Gray was really pretty - beautiful and... More

This is a hotel closest to York Minster - literally in the shadow of minster. it used to be the finance minister's residence and the longest consecutively occupied building in England. The building itself had so much history you would hardly find another 5 star with similar setting, it is not a modern refurbishment such as the Cedar court hotel... More

Our first time in wonderful York, and we are so pleased that we discovered this gem of a hotel. Cannot fault the hotel in any way! The décor was classic, yet modern. The hotel was peaceful and had an aura of calm. Spotlessly clean. Excellent quality bedding, towels and robes. The staff were top notch! They made us feel that... More

In the area returning from a wedding so decided to make that an excuse for a quick night at Grays Court. Never disappointing and a joy to be in York near Christmas - although it was nice to escape the crowds and get back to the peace & quiet of Grays Court. Can't wait for our next "excuse"!

What can I say.... Just that I feel honoured to have been able to stay in such a beautiful building which has been turned into a seven room hotel with elegance and discernment. We e-mailed ahead to say that we were arriving early and was it alright to park and check it later, but we were greeted in the car... More
