Unfortunately our lunch experience today, 07/02/16 was very disappointing. I've never understood why serving staff ask 'how was your meal?', and then totally disregard the customers feedback when you've highlighted your disappointment in the meal?? The Golden Fleece also insist that you pay for your meal before you receive it, another means of ignoring their customers opinion. Having dined at... More

What a shame. The pub is reasonably priced, the food is pretty good, and the notion of being in Yorks most haunted pub is really intriguing... But its been used and abused to promote business to a really disturbingly tacky level. Plastic skeletons at the bar and holographic ghost pictures et al! Tone it down and this would be a... More

Visited here with family on Saturday we were originally booked in the st Catherine's room over the Xmas period but due to the York floods was allowed to change our dates. Unfortunately st Catherine's room was unavailable but was offered lady peckits room instead. It was a quirky room with plenty of character and the beds sloped and the room... More

We stayed for one night just for the experience. The pub is very historic with lots of interesting pictures and cuttings, all old and creaky with very slanting uneven floors, a nice cosy bar area with its resident skeleton sat at the bar. Our room was at first sight, a bit run down looking but really it was in keeping... More

Stayed here for 1 night on sat 30th Jan in St Catherines room. The best thing about the place had to be the food. We both had giant Yorkshire pudding with beef and mash for our evening meal the night we checked in and it was amazing! Massive portions and good value for money. Breakfast was included and was very... More

I went to this historic pub with my family The service isn't great as they didn't come upstairs to take the order. I had to take the order go down to the till and gave the waitress the order. Apart from that we enjoyed the Sunday and the portions are huge. I liked the food but I wouldn't take my... More

Genuine old and traditional pub with rooms, just 4 of them. Not for you if you like modern and hi-tech but great location and enjoyable stay FOOD - not for the light eaters, proper home cooked and massive portions, both evening meal and the breakfast. First morning we had full english, nice but very filling so the next morning we... More

Other reviewers have said good things about the food and/or accommodation, but what about those just wanting to quench their thirst? Two of us went in, and ordered a beer each. This was on a Tuesday, just after lunchtime, and it was pretty quiet. We were immediately told "If you're only drinking, you have to stay in this room". This... More

Whenever I'm in York I always make the effort to visit the Golden Fleece. It is one of the most haunted pubs in England and has a great environment about it. Good selection of beers and friendly staff. I haven't eaten here but the food always looks and smells great.

Cant say anything on the rooms I've never stayed here. But have experienced the food. I ordered the beef which came with mash and veg. I found the red cabbage really tasty. The pie was really nice and over all a nice meal and not too over priced. Mrs STW had cottage pie which was also really nice and good... More
