This the third time we've stayed here, had the Shambles room this time, Lovely room with a comfy four poster bed, fantastic bathroom, big shower and slipper bath ( just had to try it out)..the eating part of the pub was packed out at all times of the day, which tells you something about the quality of the food and... We stayed in the pub, the carpets, furniture were all shabby. Plaster flaking off the wall. Curtain tiebacks falling off the wall. Needed a really good paint. Lacked any quality. Breakfast was large but everything was burnt. Paid top price for the room. Wished I had gone somewhere else. And don't get me started on the cost of the drinks!

What a lovely ye olde English pub! my partner and i initially decided to go in for a drink because of the spooky element of the pub as id seen it on Most Haunted a few years ago,but as we got in and through to the larger bar at the back we were delighted with the homely, cosy, friendly atmosphere, and... Lovely pub and very atmospheric! Staff friendly and welcoming. Food very good, especially the stilton and steak pie - yum!!! Would definately recommend to others, especially to my dad as they have what he would descibe as "proper puddings" on the menu!!

This is an excellent little pub in a beautiful location. The food is excellent and the service is supreme ..... The best part of our trip was the Ghost Walk which was hosted by Joseph. Joseph was an excellent funny host and very knowledgeable about the history of the city. We will definitely be visiting York again and especially the... More

Very small pub and very little room, overall very friendly little place and decent prices. Not somewhere where you can spend the night really. There is a ghost walk that sets off from here at 7:30 and that is well worth the time. Overall nice pub

I went here with some friends and my partner, we used this as a stop before we went on the ghost walk, I found it was hard to find a table so we had to send a friend a few hours before we even wanted to eat just to ensure we had a table. When my friends were served their... More

We popped in for a (soft) drink at 5;30 on a Friday. Nowhere to sit and I am pregnant. Went into rear bar and lady suggested we could sit and table in rear bar ( where the signs say priority given to diners) as we were going on the tourist walk from there in an hour anyway. The table we... More
