We just adore this quirky and atmospheric pub especially as they sell barefoot zinfandel rose. Typical homemade pub fayre but huge portions served with very good fresh vegetables. I had the steak pie and my husband the mixed grill. Both meals we couldnt finish but enjoyed. Good value for money as the bill with drinks came to £34.00. Service could... More

Anything and everything you order in a pub comes "and chips" or "and mash," so I was delighted to receive green peas, red cabbage, and carrots (in addition to the mash) with my chicken and tarragon pie. Everything on the plate was competently prepared, if a tad under-seasoned. My husband's steak, stilton, and ale pie was actually quite good. The... More

This used to be my favourite eatery in York. We were looking forward to good food and drink it's a shame the bar staff in the restaurant were more interested in chatting than serving. Service was so bad we ended up walking out and going elsewhere

If you like quirky then you'll like The Golden Fleece. If you want sophistication then this is not the place to go. We arrived earlier than the 2pm check in, staff were friendly and accommodating, our luggage was held behind the bar. We stayed in Lady Peckett's room which was spacious, reasonably clean but a little disappointing and 'ordinary'. We... More

doorman friendly let my two friends and I in. Got to bar and young bar man began with Spanish Inquisition as to why such a large group came in. I said I'm a Paramedic from Norwich and I was recommended to this establishment by a Landlady of a Reputable Wine Bar establishment in Norwich. The barman told me to shut... More

Firstly, the building does have a lot of character and has the feeling of a time gone by. The staff were friendly and I'm sure its a nice place to go for a few drinks. Unfortunately the food was terrible, we ordered a Sunday roast and can only presume form the taste of the beef it was from a package... More

A pub full of character. We went in at about 9.30 on a Saturday night and had to fight though the crowds to the back bar. A band was playing and the pub had a great lively feel about it. Would love to visit again when quieter and really take a look at the place.

Amazing room guys, we slept in Shambles room. The room is contemporary and welcoming, and for a girl the slipper bath is the height of decadence. The breakfast is hearty and filling and all the staff are welcoming and warm. My advice, visit York soon and stay at The Golden Fleece, you will not be disappointed. Within walking distance of... The back room staff were not very friendly. We were told that we would have to move if people arrived wanting to eat - we were only drinking. This was after we were directed from the front room to the back room. There were other people in the back room but they weren't spoken to in the same way. Miserable... More
