Great atmosphere, stayed there twice, staff really friendly, meals are big enough for any "yorkie" bloke, and the odd ghost or 3 may pay a visit too. Right at the bottom of The Shambles and a great place for a shopping trip close to the market and main shopping area of town. Will definitely be staying again x

So much character! Not much to say except a wonderful experience from start to finish...so much so that we went back the following lunch! Exceptional service from the bar staff, unique decor, cozy corners, and delicious heart-warming home-cooked grub. Please try the giant Yorkshire pudding or the fish and chips... both epically proportioned and fit for sharing. Oh, and they... More

Sat in the back bar and was asked if we wanted food which we didn't. A few minutes later another member of staff told us we were taking the room of food eating customers even though there were none waiting. He then made a racist remark about his French colleague. No wonder the BNP is popular up here. Avoid this... More

I cannot rate this place highly enough. From the amazingly friendly and professional staff, lovely landlord and land lady, tasty food and a beautiful historic setting. The rooms are great - people need to remember this an extremely old Inn not a five star modern hotel! We stayed in the Minster suite and I think this is great value for... More

Me and my partner have just come back from a one night stay here, it was nice but don't think we'd pay £100 to stay again. We stayed in lady pecketts suit, it was dry, clean and warm but expensive for what it is. They do a lovely breakfast on the morning and staff are nice and friendly. We stayed... More

We stayed overnight in The Minster suite on the 27th Feb. The room was lovely very atmospheric, well stocked tea & coffee facilities and clean. Full English Breakfast was really nice and served with toast, cereal and OJ. I loved our first child free (birthday treat) visit to York and the Golden Fleece and would definitely visit /stay again. The... More

We arrived at the door of the Golden Fleece with our small dog. Having been here many times with our pooch, we were amazed to be treated with A refusal of entry by the doorman. We explained that we had been in on previous visits and he let us in. We sat in a corner and our dog laid down... More

We stayed here with our daughter on Sat night in 2 rooms. Certainly has plenty of character.... didn't see any ghost. Makes a change from premier inn which was about same price. Staff let the establishment down very un welcoming and service was poor. Forgot to serve me my breakfast which i pointed out when came to ask if everything... More

My fiancé and i stayed in The Shambles room last night (27th February) and absolutely loved the character of the bedroom and bathroom. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Dinner was fabulous! HUGE portions for a very reasonable price and as a result we struggled to manage breakfast this morning which was equally huge but very good and... More

The pub was lovely both outside and in. The choice of food and beer was good and the staff were very friendly. Only issue was the atmosphere, as it is known to be haunted then the pub was predominantly full of tourists which i feel spoilt the atmosphere. But would recommend a visit to anyone.
