Stayed two nights. The room was fine. Breakfast as advertised. Free parking nearby but were given a voucher to use if required. Plenty of information in the room about York. Quiet location close to town.

We've just come back from York this weekend where we stayed in a lovely, modern, welcoming B&B. Just a short walk from the town centre and excellent facilities. We would definitely stay here again. Steve was very welcoming and gave us some great tips about where to go in York. Bed very comfortable and the room has everything you need.... More

I booked The Birchfield Guest House for my girlfriend Amy's 21st Birthday and it certainly did not disappoint. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed with open arms by Steve and his daughter Carla. Carla especially was a lovely girl and I thank her for the greeting she gave us both. When we went downstairs for breakfast, she wrote... More

We had a lovely stay at the Birchfield. A warm welcoming guest house which was very reasonably priced. The breakfast was basic but this is clearly stated on website. The room was very clean and nicely decorated.

This was our second visit to Birchwood and won't be our last. A lovely warm welcome from Carla and an immaculately clean room. Steve appeared a little while later and greeted us with his trademark friendliness. The room was lovely and warm and the duvets nice and thick which kept us all toasty in the cold weather. It was the... More

We got a warm welcome from Carla, the owner's daughter. Our room, on the first floor, was comfortable and quiet. The hotel is 15-20 minutes' walk from the city centre, railway station, Minster etc. Car parking in York is a big problem, so go by train if possible! Our luck was in and we found a space in Scarcroft Road,... More

Me and my partner stayed at Birchfield Guest house mid week in February 2014 and had a lovely stay. We were met by Steve the owner and introduced to his daughter Carla who couldn't be anymore helpful. Steve went out of his way to find and secure us a parking space and was very helpful by providing a map and... More

We had a lovely stay at Birchfield. The room (Minster) was huge, well decorated and very clean. There was ample space for us and our travel cot. The bed was comfortable and warm with lots of pillows. As previous reviewers have noted, it does get cold overnight. That's probably because it's winter! There is an electric heater if needed but... More

Let me start by saying that we received a very warm welcome at Birchfield House. I believe Steve and his wife were on holiday whilst we were staying; however, his daughter looked after us very well and she was extremely friendly and welcoming. So why have I given Birchfield house two stars? Ill try and break it down below. The... More

Now, let me get this right. The design on the quilt cover on your bed, “ruined a romantic end to the evening”. You emphasised this, as being your “biggest grip”. Have I read this correctly ? On the same subject you add : “There was a lovely throw over the bed which initially hid this”, but that the “pattern on... More

Me and my girl friend stayed in the guest house which cost us £150 for two night. On arrival we were very warmly welcomed by his daughter who showed us to our room and gave us a printed out email from the guest house owner. This email was filled with lots of rules and regulations of what you can't do... More

Bed/Bedding “not what I expected from an expensive room” - Well, yours was a spotlessly and hygenically cleaned, £4000+ bed. Yes, four thousand pounds, and a £300+ quilt, with the highest quality Ikea 100% cotton bedding. You are visiting beautiful, glorious, historic York. If the (modern) design of the quilt cover beneath your “lovely throw”, is not to your satisfaction,... More
