I have stayed at the Sycamore about 10 times in the past 5 years. I find the hosts to be very friendly & helpful. This place is a cosy home from home & have always thoroughly enjoyed myself there. The breakfast is excellent & so is the service. The rooms are clean with traditional decor & lots of character. The... more

Our family of 4 stayed for 4 nights. Convenient location is this utterly walkable city. Clean, comfy. Our 2 rooms were on the top floor, and the one w/ the double bed was quite cramped. Kids' room next door was charming under the eaves, w/ a skylight, but would have been very cramped had they been bigger!. Very traditional decor,... more

My husband took ill as we were taking our leave and our hosts at the Sycamore could not have been more kind or helpful. The house itself is very charming, clean, and convenient, but what really stuck out where the lengths these people went to to make our emergency less of an emergency. While I was at the hospital seeing... more

my husband and i really enjoyed our stay at the sycamore. i was very surprised to read anything negative about this guest house. the hosts were among the most friendly and helpful we've come across compared to other b&b's. our room was very pretty with traditional interiors in keeping with the building and the historic city. housekeeping was impecable and... more

The location was pretty good, nice, Edwardian I think, street and the route into the city centre was pleasant either through the park of the Yorkshire Museum, containing the ruins of the monastery or a stroll along the Ouse. We would probably have missed this if we had stayed in another area. The lady you greeted us was courteous and... more

as soon as we arrived at the sycamore, we were made to feel very welcome and our stay was just as pleasant throughout. the location couldn't be better - close enough to the city to be able to walk everywhere, but far enough from the hussle and bussle too. very nice spacious room with period features - a nice change... more

This B&B is ideally located at the end of a quiet street. It is a few minutes walk to the Garden Museum Park which is the scenic route to the York Minster church. There is carpark available on the street where the owners will provide a parking permit. The whole town is easily walkable. The owners are friendly and served... more

Loved this cozy guest house in a quiet part of York. Easy acces to the city and railway station. Elizabeth and Spiro made us very welcome and cook up a wonderful breakfast. The room was small and cozy with everything we needed. more

I took the recommendation for this place from Rick Steves' book and I think he was honest enough that this place was on a quiet street, overlooking a lawnbowling course, and that it was an easy walk into the town of York. We found it to be a great location. At Guesthouses, there seems to be a little less personal... more
