Just returned from York -I settled for my least preferred option because everything else recommended was booked out ! so it was the Newington Hotel for me on Laterooms -10 mins from the York city centre and was in fact fine -I was quite happy -45 pounds with fantastic English breakfast thrown in-actually nicely served by truly lovely staff...There is... more

The rooms we stayed in (3 in total) were stuck in a 1970's time-warp. The bathroom was windowless, airless, dark and in much need of modernisation. Having experienced a poor attempt at an English breakfast, I would not want to pay extra to eat dinner at the hotel. Only after checking into the hotel were we informed, by letter, that... more

We booked a night based on what we saw on the web site. Unfortunately what we saw on arrival was nothing like what we expected from the images and description on the web site. The room we were given was so poor and depressing we could not bear to stay there (we were hoping to relax a while in the... more

Very disappointed at the standard of room - website states all rooms are of a high standard and they are not! Granted, we could see much nicer rooms, but the majority are stuck in the 70's with very poor furniture, decore and bathroom fitments. But it was clean. Breakfast nice and although the dining room has been refurbished, it is... more

We wanted a night away to celbrate New Year. This was the only hotel I could find in York a th elast minute, and now I know why. Our room was across the car park fro the main building in The Coach House, which sounded OK. But you went straight into the room from the car park, and thelittle seating... more

For the first time ever, my husband and I decided to take our children away for a short break after Christmas as a special treat. Having trawled throught the internet we came across the Newington Hotel and thought it looked really nice. How disappointed were we! Both rooms were small, dark and badly in need of re-decoration. The bathrooms were... more

My wife and I stayed here on the final 2 nights of a 2 weeks tour of England and Scotland staying in a range of hotels/guest houses and B&Bs, which gave us a very good idea as to what you got for your money and this was the only accomodation that was poor and failed to provide the expected standard... more

We recently planned a trip to York and booked a feature room for £110 over the phone, whilst on the internet. The feature room looked really modern on the internet and had a jacuzzi in so we booked it straight away. However, when we got there the room was stuck in a time warp and the jacuzzi didn't work and... more

Maybe we just got a bad room, but was really disappointed with our stay at the Newington Hotel. We paid extra for a Superior room, but there was absolutely nothing superior about it - apart from the price! The room was very dark, and very old fashioned, everytime you flushed the toilet the water pipes under our floor rattled, we... more
