The location of the hotel was excellent near the minster and shambles but a few things let it down on arrival to our room the towels were frayed and tatty we asked for a replacement which they did do but it did not look welcoming. Also one of our party is lactose intolerant and we asked for soya milk the... More

We normally do not keep soya milk, however most guests with an intolerance will inform us prior to arrival so we can organise something, which we would have done.We were not then requested to get some for the next day. On meeting the guests at reception I was just greeted with the towels tatty and the remote doesnt work, they were left at... More

Right in the centre of York (almost next to the Minster) and ideal base for exploring this compact and fascinating city. Room was OK (tiny toilet) and breakfast was great (traditional and variations) - nice not to have to pay a supplement for kippers etc. The two night deal with dinner on one night is good value. Did'n use parking... More

How lovely to stay in a hotel that treats you like an individual, from check in to super freshly cooked first breakfast. Thank you for making Sunday lunch so super for our group, from the table decor to the wonderful food, again freshly cooked. Chef checking all well with us before going for a well earned break. We had a... More

We checked into Galtres lodge and were quickly attended to by very helpful and friendly staff, our room was lovely on the very top floor, we had booked a standard room and were given the option of upgrading, we got the chance to pop our head in to one of the more expensive rooms and it was absolutely lovely but... My first thoughts upon entering Gatres Lodge was that it was akin to a greasy spoon seaside cafe. The main entrance for the hotel is through this cafe. The building décor was very outdated, and although the building is old I feel more could have been done to accentuate it's beautiful features. The photographs used and art over the walls... More

On first sight York is a lovely city and nothing had really prepared us for the quaintness of the streets and the majesty of the Minster. Just two minutes from that historic edifice and in its own historic building, the Galtres Lodge was, as far as we were concerned, a serendipitous find and an experience which we are keen to... More

The location was great but that was all there was to like! Could hardly walk around the room, very poor accommodation. Award winning breakfast was very disappointing....... coffee being brought one cup at a time, having to ask for another...... very frustrating. Nicer accommodation outside the city centre with a good bus service....... wouldn't recommend this place at all. I... More
