We found this guest house by chance after looking at all the other hotel chains on tripadvisor. What a wonderful find. From the moment we parked (it has its own parking spaces) and the welcoming cup of tea and homemade cake, we had a super two night stay. The Guest House is literally on the tow path of the river... Stayed here on Business for 3 nights. It was very easy to find. Short walk from the train station. Great location over looking the river. The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. A good hardy breakfast was provided. Beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were immaculate and equipped with a good strong power shower which is exactly what I needed to... More

Very friendly owners, greeted with tea and brownies! Room was nice and clean, though the railway ran very close and was a little noisy especially with the windows open in the mornings. Location to York was great, just a 5 minute walk. Breakfast was very good. There were toiletries in the bathroom and good tea/coffee making facilities.

Firstly, you can ignore any reviews for stays here prior to August 2013 which is when the current owners, Jane and Kingsley took over - so that writes off all of the negative reviews then! The location is perfect for the city centre, which is either a short walk along the river to the Lendal Bridge or a cut through... More

The Abbey Guest House...Home from home. Excellent hosts Jane and Kingsley welcomed us on arrival with home made cakes and tea. Rooms are fantastic, warm and welcoming and the breakfasts set you up for the day. Close to the town, shopping and dining, this is without doubt the place to stay in York. See you next year !

So it was bye bye to Gill and Alec and hello to Kingsley and Jane who had a lot to live up to and no doubt felt the pressure when they started up. They have nothing to worry about from us old regulars, however, because they are doing a fantastic job and we will definitely keep coming back. A very... More
