We stayed in the Minster room (with a 7 foot four poster). It was large, the bed was very comfy and it was 'quite' clean. Did need updating, in fact, it really needs updating - the bath had a large dent in it and the furniture was a little tatty. However, it is right in the centre of town and... more

A wonderful old property, now undergoing renovation should have provided a decent stay, but loud, loud music from the terrace in front of the hotel and from the understairs bar drove us batty. A very youthful staff, had no one in authority to correct the situation. A definite must miss for those who want a little rest. JBM July 2006 more

Even though my fiance and I only stayed at the Judge's for one night, we could find no real faults. Emma the receptionist was very helpful and waived the usual ten pounds charge for breakfast served in the bedroom, which incidebtly, was terrific. We stayed in the Queen Mother room and although it could do with a bit updating, had... more

This is a lovely old building and the staff were were helpful and served a good breakfast - however the brochure gives the feel of an old fashioned regal type hotel but on arriving we found the basement bar spilled out into the car park with loud music blaring until 11.30pm and then the sounds of the bottles being thrown... more

I'm sure that this was once a great individual hotel, but currently it clearly suffers for not having been brought in to the 21st. Century. Our room was up the back stairs which were tatty, the room itself was nice but so very dated, the bathroom had one of those showers which have no pressure if you lift the head... more

I spent a couple of nights here but would not return. The rooms we stayed in were very dated with furniture that wouldnt look out of place in a jumble sale. The beds were uncomfortable and the headboards were worn and greasy - you would not want to put your head near it. One bathroom was too small even for... more

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times - it was the first hotel I stumbled across on my first vist to York and I haven't been tempted to stay anywhere else. The staff are friendly, the food good & the location perfect. For anyone put off by the idea of the student-ish bar underneath the hotel do... more

we stayed for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. we were recommended to go there by a lovely lady in York tourist office, who phoned ahead and booked it. We had the minister room with views of the tower (behind other houses). The room was clean, the 7 foot 4 poster was comfortable. The spa bath looked like it... more

My wife and I stayed at the Judges in April 2004 and enjoyed it very much. We stayed in the Charlotte room and had great canopy bed and plenty of room. The bathroom was larger than the hotel room we had in London and had a Jacuzzi bathtub. The staff was very friendly and helped recommend a ghost walk. The... more

We stayed 2 nights at the Judges in the summer of 2003. We required three rooms and while they were good sized they were filthy. The floors looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in weeks and the bedding was icky in all three rooms. The location was good--easy walk into town and we found the resturant excellent. The staff... more
