We stayed for 1 night whilst visiting York, the staff, the hotel and food were great. The location was perfect for the city centre. The downside was the room, it was small, needed a refurb (the curtains didnt close properly and the blind in the bathroom did not go all the way down the window) it was also very noisy... More

Trying to find a family friendly disabled room in York is rare. We were really impressed by the size of the room and the access it gave my husband. Would definitely stay again. Staff were very helpful and the rooms clean. Very close to city centre, and good place to eat and visit.

This hotel is in a charming old English building. The room was, what you can find in many such hotels in England:a wall-to-wall carpet, heavy brown furniture and a huge canopy bed. The madrasses were too soft for us though. If you were lying too near the edge, you fell on the floor. The advantages were a renovered bathroom with... More

We stayed at the Monkbar as part of a group (re-Union), great for easy access to city , 5 mins and you are in the centre. The rooms are very good , a little traffic noise if you are upstairs and with all the usual Best Western facilities. The lounge and bar areas are nice and comfy but with all... More

This is a good, comfortable hotel which is well located for all York's attractions. The room we had would have qualified as a suite in most other places and it was well equipped. A small caveat is that it was a balcony room and the narrow steps to these might present problems to those lacking mobility: a check on this... More

We stayed here for 3 nights, the location of the hotel is great, all the local attractions are within walking distance - York Minster, the dungeons etc. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast plentiful and tasty. We had booked an executive room and unfortunately it overlooked what is the front of the hotel. The... More

This hotel is located well if you wish to explore York but being on the one-way system limits it's accessibility. The car park is also difficult to find. Inside the hotel is very tired and dated although this has been acknowledged and the place is currently under refurbishment. The room was basic and not well laid out; the remote control... More

I stayed at the Monkbar for a 50th reunion with University friends. As it's name indicates it is right by the historic Monbar and an easy walk to all York amenities including the rail station and museum. My room only had skylight windows was otherwise satisfactory. The breakfast was excellent10/10.

Great location just outside the city walls so sight-seeing is just a short walk away. Renovations are taking place so we had to stay in the separate building. This building was older and lacked in modern amenities. The bath was large, carpeting old, bedding adequate. Our room was facing the street so road noise was an issue. Parking was nearby... More
