Superb food , excellent service and the most exquisit of old houses . We stayed in a cottage room and so enjoyed the decor and facilities , it had everything that you would want from a modern hotel room but was filled with wonderful old period antiques from by gone days . My wife and I really enjoyed the tranquility... more

We were given a spa break voucher for Middlethorpe Hall as a present. When we arrived we were shown to a beautiful room in the courtyard. It was very nicely decorated, with a king size-bed, it didn't have much of a view, but then we didn't spend that much time in the room anyway. The only negative point that I... more

We spent a couple of nights at MIddlethorpe Hall and thought the place was lovely. Couldnt fault the staff, everyone very helpful. We used the spa, not as large as some spas I have visited, however the treatments were very good and much cheaper. We ate in our room first night and as one of the other reviewers mentioned the... more

Stayed in Jan 09. Yes the hotel is lovely. The staff are courteous and efficient and the food is very good. A couple of minor points which stopped me awarding 5 stars are: The drawing room was uncomfortably cold when we arrived. Gas 'fires' are ok aesthetically but they certainly do not emit the level of heat required for such... more

Middlethorpe Hall..... a truly relaxing time was had. From the Earl Grey tea tasteing amazing from the silver teapot, the softly creaking floorboards under thick carpet, the welcoming open fire in the hallway, delicious home made biscuits in the room, the beautifully furnished rooms to the staff always smiling genuine smiles....oh, the food. The presentation was perfect, the taste amazing.... more

In my experience of hotels, the nicer the hotel the ruder the staff. Middlethorpe is the exception to the rule! The staff could not be more accomodating or charming. The building is exceptional - no surprise when linked to the National Trust! The grounds are beautiful. The food and drink out of this world. Middlethorpe isn't your average hotel, you... more

Once again previous Trip Advisor reviewers provided sufficient background information to encourage us to indulge ourselves in a luxury weekend at this beautful National Trust property. After three days of pampering and gourmet evening meals we have no hesitation in recommending Middlethorpe Hall Hotel and Spa. more

This is a wonderful hotel. The setting is excellent for York city centre and the races. The room itself was splendid, comprising 3 separate rooms. The spa is lovely and a minute from the main hotel. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful. The only negative was the small quantities of fish at breakfast. Overall though, staying at Middlethorpe was... more

Quality, Quiet Christmas My husband and I decided to spend our first Christmas in a hotel. Naturally we were a bit apprehensive as this was our first experience of Christmas away from family. If truth be known we did actually visit family on Boxing Day! On arrival on Christmas Eve we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager who took... more

Lovely hotel - super historic main building. Lovely public rooms - a throwback to another age!! I was a courtyard room, a bit small for two, with a slightly overpowering chintz decor but a well appointed bathroom, warm and clean. The absence of a hospitality tray was strange, and a radio and a flat screen tv with radio channels was... more
