Staying at Middlethorpe Hall is like being a guest in a country manor. It has interesting history and stories behind this listed national trust building. We stayed in the main house in a lovely homely room and great bathroom( but with very noisy extractor fan). The ground is beautiful with organic vegetable and fruit gardens and we were lucky to... First time we wanted to stay here it was fully booked so second time lucky. Having traveled down from Edinburgh and stopped for some sight seeing we arrived quite late but still in time for dinner. The staff where friendly and helpful but I must admit that finding that our accommodation was not in the main building but rather in... More

We stayed here for two nights, to look round York as it was a long time since we'd visited it. The hotel is a superb historic building, owned by the National Trust, with lovely grounds and gardens. However, as many others have mentioned, there is a persistent drone from the York ring road. Our room was in the main house... More

This is my second visit...l love this hotel. The cottage suite was delightful, very pretty and in such a peaceful setting. We enjoyed a look around the House gardens in the morning sunshine, and took many lovely photographs. Our dinner was superb, beautifully cooked and presented, a real treat for us.. Our waiter, Thomas, was friendly and welcoming, and the... More

I have just returned from staying here with my boyfriend for a night. We were lucky enough to have one of the courtyard rooms which was lovely. We had a bottle of wine on arrival and the staff certainly could not do enough for us. Beautiful gardens and we were even lucky enough to see 2 deer whilst having an... More

Just returned from this lovely hotel. We felt that the balance was just right. Although it obviously IS a hotel, the feeling is that you have the run of someone's beautiful country house. It is warm, welcoming and relaxing. The fact that it is a little worn around the edges merely adds to it's charm...it is over 300 years old... More

Recently returned from a break in York with four nights at the idyllic Middlethorpe Hall, located about a 30-40 minute walk outside York. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and booked in with little fuss. The rooms are very quaint, with a traditional feel, the biscuit box is a great little touch. The hall itself is beautiful with very well... More

We booked 2 nights here via booking.com and were delighted to be upgraded to a very spacious and comfortable suite in the courtyard. The building itself and the grounds are magnificent and the staff well trained and friendly. We had no criticisms really although my partner found the food at dinner a bit rich. Do try the breakfast pancakes!

This hotel offers something different and special which makes it unique to other hotels in the area. However that's not the only reason to rate Middlethorpe Hall so highly. First of all the staff are excellent, which is critical when it comes to a hotel stay. They provided us with small little touches which just made that difference. Being able... More

When we were invited to go to Scotland for a family wedding, the urge to stop over at Middlethorpe on the way up and back was overwhelming. Nothing changes: welcoming staff, lovely bedrooms, a very comfortable lounge, and excellent food served by friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. It is difficult find more to add to our earlier reviews. This is... More
