We stayed in a fantastic room with four poster bed in the main house. Very quiet, well maintained and spacious room although the bathroom was quite small. The hotel itself is beautiful. We made use of the lovely spa which was perfect. We ate in the restaurant and found the food to be okay but overpriced for what it was.... more

I have just returned from an overnight stay at Middlethorpe Hall with my partner and I have to say that not only did it live up to but it more than surpassed our demanding expectations. We were a little concerned after reading some of the negative reviews on Trip Advisor but those concerns soon evaporated. From the moment we entered... more

We found this gem of a hotel whilst searching for places to stay near York on Tripadvisor. We stayed in room 28 in one of the courtyard rooms and found it to be cosy ,comfortable and everything we wanted for a peacefull 2 day breakaway from the children. The room had a lovely view of the garden, Penhaligan toiletries in... more

My husband and I have just spent three nights at this super hotel. We were in need of a touch of TLC and Middlethorpe provided just that. It isn't the cheapest of hotels but for a calm elegant but relaxed break it proved to be worth the money. Our room, in the hotel, was beautifully furnished and clean; the bed... more

We have never come across a better combination of service (friendly very wiiling pleasant and efficient), comfort (spacious well equpped rooms), food (excellent), wine (good affordable), and a lovely park . The one slight, and I emphasise slight, downside was the busy road - some distance away but too near for total peace unless you were in one of the... more

Lovely hotel, staff are excellent. Real human touch and attention to detail. Great location for York. Beautiful rooms. Tip: if you want away from traffic noise ask for room at the back or a cottage room. more

To cut to the chase: the food at this place deserves comparison with anywhere. Now that bold statement is made after just one meal and by someone who is not reknown for his palate but I found the offering even better than Le manoir or L'Enclume or many other much more lauded establishments. It may be expensive , especially for... more

Middlethorpe Hall, just outside of York, England is a magnificent find. It is exactly what one would expect of a 18th century manor house-turned-hotel. Stunningly beautiful, appointed with furniture appropriate to such a distinguished building, the grounds were immaculately kept, and above all, the staff was 5-star. We stayed in a carriage house converted to rooms. It was beautiful and... more
