I've stayed here several times because it offers unbeatable value. I am very surprised at so many negative reviews - I can only assume those travellers were expecting 5 star service for a bargain price. The place is a little faded in places and has probably seen better days but it's clean and functional and is the cheapest hotel I... More

This hotel was booked as a last minute treat so I was very impressed to get a double room B&B for £67. The hotel had on street parking, it was dead easy to find from the A64. Once we had got our keys we went to check out the room, the main areas are very grand, slightly tatty but nothing... More

This hotel is well located for the city centre, only a short walk from the station. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable with plenty of space and tea/coffee making . The food was excellent. We will certainly go here again when we visit York.

Place looks very grand from outside and from a distance. Closer inspection makes you think of a youth hostel. We should have suspected something when we were asked to pay up front... 'Your room is down the corridoor, through the fire exit and across the carpark...' Dear oh dear. 'Portacabin/shed' would have been more appropriate. Room stunk of mothballs, bedding... More

We arrived and the hotel at approx 11.15am to be told that the room we had booked was not available due to a leaking pipe overnight which had flooded the room and resulted in the room being unsafe to stay in. Were told by lady on reception that they had called us to advise but we had no phone call... More

We spent a recent Saturday night at the Elmbank and were very disappointed. Our room was very small and dark with an uncomfortable bed and shabby decor. The shower cubicle in the bathroom was compact to say the least. The key system was very old fashioned with a drop box and having to ring the night porter to be let... More

Having read a lot of the reviews on here after booking our room, I was worried we might be in for a rough time. However, I was pleasently suprised and it was well worth the £54 we paid, which included breakfast. The staff on reception was friendly and every staff member we passed in the corridor said hello. The room... More

Arrived to a grand dark wood reception and hallway. Checking in was nice and quick, paying up front was strange?! When walking to our room we were hit by an overpowering smell of chlorine which carried on into our room - we had to leave the window open for ages. Room was somewhat disappointing - bathroom door didn't close properly,... More

We booked a family room, the appearance of the room was very shabby, the beds were uncomfortable. In the bathroom one the lights did not work, the toilet only flushed if you held the lever down, the shower was luke warm, the shower curtain did not meet the wall, the tiles were not clean and the extractor fan sounded like...
