Third time we have stayed here, great location, friendly staff and very clean. The only minus for us really is the availability of parking spaces outside. The food was of a good standard. I would certainly stay here again. Great value for money in a very convenient location for exploring the city centre.

2 night stay with my sister. Enjoyed fish & chips on patio. Walked easily into York on Saturday. Lovely hotel and well positioned for all sights. Only a small point, would have liked soap in bathroom to wash hands, had to use shower gel (provided). Comfortable room. Definitely worth having the cooked breakfast, plenty of choice and only £8.50! We... More

We had a very enjoyable overnight stay. The room was comfortable and a decent size. The staff we saw were helpful and friendly, especially the lady at breakfast..The lounge was a very comfortable room for a drink before bedtime and in winter there is an open fire. The walk into the centre of York took about 15 mins. We have stayed... More

Had a three-night stay at the Elmbank Hotel. Good location - about 10 minutes' walk from railway station. Very small car park so I was pleased we had travelled by train instead of by car. Lovely hotel and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The room we had was very clean, a reasonable size and with a comfortable bed.... More

Elmbank is well situated for a visit to the ancient City of York. It is reasonably priced and provides a hearty breakfast in interesting surroundings. Be aware that there is no lift and that the baronial scale of the staircases might be challenging. There is limited on street parking on a first come first served basis. We have stayed here... More

My husband and I stayed last Saturday night after a day out at the races. We were put in a room in the Elmbank Lodge, just across from the main hotel. The room was huge, but only had a small double bed. It was clean with lovely white sheets and towels and plenty of tea/coffee however it was in dire... More

Decided to book at last minute, on one of York's busiest weekends, Now know why they were the only place with rooms available. Thought we had booked a room in the hotel, only to find it was in the lodge. On entering the lodge you get a very strange smell, our room was down the stairs, where the odour was... More

I was a bit worried about booking this hotel after reading some of the more negative reviews but I had a limited budget and prices had shot up in York as the Ebor festival was on at the racecourse. All I can say is we were given a very warm welcome by the lovely receptionist when we arrived on Friday... More

I went to this hotel with a friend for a night. We were in a twin (though it was a zipped together twin but very wide!) bed in the annex. I was agreeabley surprised after reading some of the negative reviews on here, we thought the place was fine for a night or two. It wasn't posh, but what do... More

We stayed here on a rainy Friday in August and were impressed by the cosy rooms and lovely decor of the downstairs hall and bar. Some readers have commented on some of the areas looking a bit 'tired' which is true but the unusual decoration and magnificant wooden hall and staircase along with resident cat make up for this. The... More
