We stayed here for the one night and for £45 for a double room we couldn't argue. Yes the place is in need of a bit of a refurb and the room was quite cold despite the heating being on but for the price we paid it did the job. It's not too far from the city centre and has... More

Needed a hotel for one night at short notice. This ticked almost all the boxes. Laid back from the main road with limited parking, but plenty of street parking outside. This hotel is a bit dated but still had its charm. Could do with a bit of TLC. Small bar, large separate lounge area. Rooms are also available in the... More

Stayed for 2 nights January 2015 as seeing show at Barbican. Plenty of parking in car park and on street. Room spacious, warm and clean. Ate dinner in hotel restaurant on first night and the fixed rate 3 course for £15.00 was very good value for money - nicely presented and tasty. The lounge is lovely, always warm and welcoming.... My partner and I spent two nights here the weekend before Christmas, and to be honest, my views on the Elmbank are mixed. Pros: 1. Distance to the City Centre - Ok, it's about a 10 minute brisk walk to get to the main shopping area, so maybe not for everyone, but it does mean that you can mooch back... More

A drab hotel greatly in need of investment. This applies to both the building and reception staff. It could he such a wonderful hotel but it is now tired, run down and uninviting. The room we stayed in was thoroughly dirty. Carpets threadbare in places, windows well past their replacement date and the common parts of the building were very... More

There were 6 of us, 3 couples for 2 nights. We arrived at lunch time on New Years Eve and were able to check in to 2 of the 3 rooms as they were ready which was good as it was before the advertised check in time. The rooms were out in the courtyard. This was ok as they were... More

I suppose beggars can't be choosers when booking a hotel for New Year's Eve at relatively short notice; but this really was the sort of English hotel that I thought had died out long ago. The 'faux grand' foyer was sort of OK above eye level; but the (originally expensive) carper was held together by gaffatape. Moving into the room,... More

Poor, disinterested, unhelpful, service. A complete rip off. Lesson learnt, will never return. Reminded me of Fawlty Towers, but unfortunately nowhere near as funny! Good job we were there with good friends who made the stay bearable!
