We stayed for 4 nights courtesy of our employers. It was a last minute booking, and I wish we had went elsewhere. Very old fashioned hotel which appeals to some people. Our rooms were situated outside the back of the hotel, we had to leave the main building and go across the courtyard. Rooms were clean, but clearly hadn't been... More

Good points were; free wifi, relatively close to the city (more than 10minutes for sure) clean hotel & good bed. Service wasn't that great or there wasn't any, I read about strict check in rule at 2pm, and it's true. We have travelled around the world but first place we came across something like this. Girl at reception simply was... More

Good location, York centre 10 min walk away. Food was OK staff friendly rooms clean and warm. Tea and coffee TV and FREE WiFi in room all for £43 per night. If you want breakfast it an extra £8.50 per person and that was for full English :-) try and get better for the price in York ! You can't!... More

Hotel: Made up of two buildings, the main hotel itself and a building over the road. I stayed in main hotel so my review is based on this only When entering the reception is to the right, bar to the left and main entrance with an open fire in front of you. Parking: To the right of the hotel, limited... More

The pictures of the reception rooms are fine - that is what they look like but the bedrooms are somewhat tired, or at least ours was. We had a room at the rear, not part of the main building, near the car park. Bathroom certainly in need of updating. Breakfast was good. Welcome by Reception staff was disappointing.

Stayed here in October 2014. The hotel is quite dated in terms of decor but it had character and a relaxed and homely feel about it. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is limited parking, although there is alternative parking nearby. Good location, just a short walk in to the centre. There was something charming about the place and I... More

Too few staff to cope with guests. One guy ran around booking in, tending the bar, waiting in the restaurant and taking orders for drinks with the meal all of which meant inevitable delays. Food was below average, had to send back the entree and its replacement was clearly defrosted, not fresh. The steak was dry, perhaps pre-cooked and re-heated... More

Stayed one night. Staff friendly, Room spacious the floorboards creak expected because of age. Downstairs area very nice, Parking limited so try to arrive between 11-12 for space. You can leave cases behind desk. Major bad point, no hot water at anytime. Seen a previous review with same problem. Also needs bit more T.L.C.

We got a great deal online £120.00 for two nights. When we got there the hotel is beautiful. Very old looking with fantastic period features. However when we checked in we were told we we to be staying in the lodge across the road not the beautiful old hotel. The lodge was victorian looking, high ceilings and a massive room... More

Stayed for one night as it's less than a mile from the centre of York. The hotel looks grand from the outside but the room looked like it was decorated in 1994 and needs refreshing. It was clean but there was a damp smell. It was comfortable but glad it was only one night, I wouldn't stay again
