The room was spacious but not the cleanest. We had a lovely view of loads of old mattressess and tyres out of our window. The bathroom was grubby and you wouldn't exactly call it a power shower. The sheets would not have been a good advert for Persil. Breakfast service scored 10/10 for comedy value and was only missing Manuel... more

we arrived in a dark and grotty reception, we asked to view the rooms, good move as we decided not to stay, unfortunately as we had not given 24hr notice we still had to pay via pre arranged credit card, steer clear!!!!!!!!! more

We had the gross misfortune to find ourselves booked into this place by the tour company!! We arrived very late in the day and most of our fellow travellers were extremely tired after a long day and we were all very grateful to have at last arrived somewhere to rest. Situation was good - short walk from main sights.BUT........little did... more

Me and my friends stayed here over the weekend for the last day of York races. On arrival there was no parking and we got told to park where it stated "permit holders only" and that we wouldnt get a ticket. Our room was very basic and had a stale damp smell about it which didnt disappear even after opening... more

£65 on room only or £69 including breakfast for a double room for a Friday night booked direct through the hotel's own website. Advised by friends to request a courtyard room which stand seperate to the main building, the room was light, clean and airy with a large window overlooking the small non functional courtyard, pretty much standard hotel chain... more

We've only ever entered 2 reviews on Tripadvisor before although we use it frequently, our first review was to commend a place. We had read the reviews for the Elmbank Hotel and it was mixed so we went with an open mind..... We spent last night at the Elmbank and if we had not had over the limit at a... more

I don't know where to start - everything was awful. Don't know where to start really. The room was disgusting. On arrival I was greeted with the last guest's turd down the toilet and a used tampax behind the loo on a filthy floor. The windows were so dirty it was impossible to see out of them. The beds were... more

The Elmbank is a very odd and very old hotel located a good 30 minutes from the city center. It is as the previous reviews have stated indeed smelly and cheap. The furniture is elfin and the beds can be quite tortuous and hard as stone. However, with that said, it is a very reasonable place to stay. The rooms... more

I think my friends and I were in a different hotel from most people who have written reviews. This was no bargain - we stayed in a triple and a quadruple room which cost in total £249 for the night. These rooms were no bigger than doubles elsewhere so not exactly a cheap rate. Breakfast was included but was of... more
