When we arrived we found our room had been double booked... Which led to great confusion by the staff. Outrageous experience... Wouldn't recommend as if we hadn't pushed I dint think the staff would have sought alternative accommodation for us! SW :-)

Went to York for the weekend with friends. Place is clean, affordable and reasonably comfortable. Location is good for going out in town. Breakfast consists of a bowl of cereal, pastry and a cup of tea. Not bad but not necessarily worth dragging yourself out of bed for after a late night! staff are nice the only thing that was... Absolutely fantastic youth hostel. Very conveniently located 10mins walking distance from the railway station. Very helpful and friendly staff. The youth hostel is more a mansion than a simple hotel, the interior is beautiful, serene, super clean and cosy. breakfast included, social room, game room, clean dormitory. Only minus is the fact that there is no fridge or cooking facilities... More

Very good. Great interior and very clean. Complementary breakfast! Great location, good staff, only down side was the heating - my room was cold and had to create a cubby house with additional blankets. Highly recommend to anyone. Best in UK I've been to so far.

I was a tad nervous to stay here but actually had a pretty good experience. Yes, they were completing some refurbishments but they didn't get in the way of anything and didn't make any noise during the night. The staff were nice and friendly -happy to help! Had free breakfast of the basics but nothing to complain about there. Location... More

I didn't actually manage to stay here, despite making a booking a couple of months beforehand! We ended up cancelling our entire weekend to York thanks to the mismanagement of this hostel. Two weeks before we were due to stay I received a number of missed calls from the hostel (returning the calls and playing cat and mouse trying to... More

This affordable hostel was clean, not too noisy or busy and had a free breakfast of fresh croissants, juice, instant coffee, cereals etc. If you're on a budget, this is great value for money and it's fun to go on a trail of the building, reading the history of each room. There's also a games room and a large telly... More

Nowhere to park, sent upstairs to my room, was told 'bed 3'.. Went to bed 3 (this is after I has to take my car miles down the road to park it) laid down and got on with some uni work.. went to sleep, woke up to some woman turning the light on saying she's in my bed..turned round, and... More

This hotel is in an old house and is very nice. The staff is helpful and very kind. The hotel is well situated (near railway station and the center of York). Breakfast is free and good (coffee, tea, fruit juice, yoghurt, cereal, croissant, jam...). I was in a bedroom of 6 bed with my friend and we slept very well... More

Stayed here in Nov 2013 as a last minute resort after winning a competition to attend a special event in York city centre. No issues with booking, arrived in the afternoon, was checked in, and stayed in the room on the first floor that had 10 beds. When I arrived, I could smell the room was full of men's deodrants....
