My partner and I booked the holly lodge at a last minute and were fairly optimistic! Geoff the owner is very friendly and obliging although I've never stayed anywhere where you get a "10 minutes til checkout " warning! The breakfast was AMAZING! The room was nice, quaint as you'd expect from an old building such as this and very... More

This is a lovely old house, the decoration may be a little old and tired but the room and bedding and towels were clean which is important to me. The double bed in no 7 was really comfortable and I had the best nights sleep, out of 3 B&B's we'd stayed in during our weekend visit. Breakfast was good and... More

we booked this b&b as we needed somewhere to stay for just one night that had parking and close to the city centre. it filled all these requirements. we were warmly welcomed by the owner who explained about the doors etc and shown to our rooms we each had a double room .ours had a shower and our friends a... Unfortunately Holly Lodge did not come up to our expectations from the website. We stayed for 3 nights, and our room was no. 7, on the ground floor, which is a large room (2 singles and a double) and could be very pleasant if updated and re-decorated. The beds and towels were very clean and tidy but the room itself... More

Stayed at this B+B 10-12th October 2014 with the wife. The owner, Geoff, was extremely friendly and very welcoming, happy to chat and offer advice. Travelled by train but ample private car parking at the front. The building is old and full of character. we stayed in a 5* City centre of Manchester hotel the night before. The Holly Lodge... More

We stayed for 2 nights Saturday & Sunday night. We were very impressed with the owner. Welcoming & very helpful. The room was on the ground floor. It was tired looking and really needed a makeover. The shower cubicle was small & felt flimsy. The shower head fell off the second morning! The soap dish was cracked. The dining room... More

I was inclined not to write this review as it will not be favourable to Jeff who was a friendly host. We all get only one chance to make a first impression and the front garden, which needs some work, and the back of the entrance hall front door both set the tone; it was grubby and needs to be... The Holly is located a short walk from the city walls is the beautiful Fulford area of York. The building is an old Victorian home & has for many years been run as a B&B & it is quintessentially English. Visitors from overseas will see this as typical England For those who like the clean, sterile rooms of modern plush... More

Turned up and was given room 1 on ground floor. The room was fitted with secondary double glazing, it was very hot, opened inner section only to find the outer windows here bolted down, hence a very stuffy night spendthrift here. The linen was very clean. Bathroom rather small. Rate quoted was £88 for a double including breakfast, asked for... More

Beware, it would appear that not all rooms are to the same standard shown in photos. Our room (4) was dirty, dated, smelly and very small. The toilet bore the leavings of previous guests, the carpet looked like it hadn't been bothered by a cleaner for some time and the walls were paper thin. Also a bit stingy with tea/coffee/water....
