Got there at 1.30.Told bar man at 2 pm that tv didn't work, toilet didn't flush.went out, came back in at 6pm and nobody had done anything.Bedroom thermostats didn't work so couldn't regulate room temp.Toilet door wouldn't latch and was falling to pieces.Window catches broken.Room dirty and smelly, mould on toilet and shower ceiling. The worst place I've ever stayed.

We booked to stay here on the day of the severe flooding in York. All roads were cut off into York and the police were advising motorists not to travel to York due to severe conditions and risk to life. We tried to call the hotel all day but no one answered the phone, so we assumed that the hotel... More

We decided to stay in York on New Year's Eve. However we could find nothing under £250. Until I stumbled upon the mare. £80 for 4 people, less than the price of a hostel! We stayed in a cottage style building outside the main pub. The staff are friendly although the owner was a bit keen to sell us tickets... More

I was originally attracted to this place because it had free parking, looked close to city center and was quite cheap but this had to be one of the worst places we've stayed. The staff were nice but the room was disgusting: trash wasn't removed, moldy shower, dirty floor, broken toilet, no water pressure, no shampoo, dirty mugs, gross breakfast... More

My partner and I visited York for an over night stay mainly to go to the Christmas market and York dungeons. My partner booked the hotel the week previously online. I thought the price of £39 for 2 of us for bed and continental breakfast was very reasonable. The pub/hotel is an old building, over 300 years, but in good... More

We stayed in the 5 person room, which whilst dated and in need of a refurbishment was clean and spacious enough for 5 blokes. The staff were friendly and welcoming and they serve and excellent pint at the bar. If I'm totally honest there will be far nicer places to stay but all things considered (price, location and that it... More

Having read the reviews prior to arriving I was fearing the worst for our stay at the Old Grey Mare. Its around a 15-20 minute walk from York train station for our party of 7, which we did with one person on crutches but in a wheelchair. Having checked in we were shown to our rooms, a triple room and... More

Having read the reviews for this property, I was very apprehensive. However, it is what it is. For £60 per night in York, what should you expect! We had a comfortable stay, the bed linen and towels were clean, parking on-site but there was also on-road parking. The inn itself is a little tired in places, but overall it was... More

Grim.......dated.......not quite clean.......damp......dingy........ Staff barely speak....Grim pub as well as grim rooms......we were in a chalet style outer building thank God. We spent as little time in the room as possible. Even going to the cinema on the evening so we didn't have to stay in the room or even worse have a drink in the pub. The shower was... More
